autoguiding, ssag, dmk21

Hi Everyone,

Is anyone using the DMK21 for autoguiding. I have had great difficulties with the SSAG as it is completely not compatable with USB3.0 xHCI which unfortunately is the only type of USB I have on my Alienware laptop (and Orion cannot fix this problem at this point).

I am thinking about using the DMK21AU - (because i have it already and love it for solar imaging) - rather than buying a lodestar or other autoguider. It's only 1/4' and the ssag is 1/2' so i expect it could be problematic.

I would appreciate any comments from those using the DMK21au to guide using PhD.

cheers
Karen

Hi Karen,

I used both the DMK21 and DMK41 as a guide cam using PHD, and techincally they both work very well, and have good sensitivity to deliver the frames to PHD.

It will be fine, using a dsi pro and have never had an issue getting a guide star and my guiding is perfect. And your dmk is ccd which has better sensitivity over the the cmos in the ssag, not that it matters a hell of alot since its only guiding anyhow though its a bonus. People have being guiding fine on 1/4 ccd for years and most still do lol, just give it a go and see for yourself. Its really crappy of orion but its not really what you call a high class camera though it gets the job done.
