Ngc 1788

Probably the least well known of the nebulae in Orion :-)

NGC 1788, imaged last night 120:40:40:40 LRGB.

It would have been 180 minutes of luminance (and could have used it) except that the G11 suddenly went into an uncontrolled declination slew 2 hours in ... I guess it was a guide command that got scrambled somehow - once or twice before the G11 has slewed wildly in Dec when given a slew command. Anyone met this problem before or have any bright ideas?

Well, that's an interesting little bugger Jon, nice work There are a lot of interesting bits and pieces in the Orion Region, we always get magnetically pulled toward the Great Nebula and the Horsey

Wow, were you at the scope when it went mad?

Have this on my list so good to see it although it's outer parts look faint. My mount did that once for no reason so I had to give it a good talking to.

John.

Thanks guys. I've been leaving the G11 imaging in the wee hours unsupervised with no problems so far. But it was disconcerting to find it trying to strangle itself with the camera and focuser USB cables. It had done two full revolutions in Dec before it stopped ...

Nice work Jon!

Interesting nebula, another I've not seen before. It looks just like the mid section of M 78.

Cheers,

Justin.

Yep, definitely made out of the same sort of sludge. :-)
