Doctor Who and his amazing anniversary
Time Lords are invited to dust off their Sonic Screwdrivers, pack the TARDIS and bring their favourite travelling companion to Newcastle Museum this Saturday 23 November to join in celebrations to mark 50 years of Doctor Who.
Doctor Who was first broadcast on the BBC at 5.15pm on Saturday 23 November, 1963. Since then it has been watched by an estimated 80 million viewers in 206 countries.
Newcastle Museum Public Programs Manager Samantha Willcox says Doctor Who and his adventures have been much loved – and feared - by people of all ages across time.
“Nearly everyone can tell you which Doctor Who monster scared them the most as a child. Or who their favourite Doctor or companion is. From dinner party conversation to nights glued in front of the telly, Doctor Who has been part of the social fabric for half a century.”
To celebrate this milestone, the Museum will come alive with Doctor Who themed craft, activities and music this Saturday 23 November.
“We want people to dress up and fill the Museum with Doctors and Daleks, K9s and Cybermen, Weeping Angels and Zygons! Everyone in costume will receive a complimentary bag of jelly babies. There will be a Doctor Who trivia game and a special birthday cake to share in what promises to be an amazing anniversary for the Doctor.”
The Doctor Who Anniversary will be held at Newcastle Museum on Saturday 23 November, 10am – 1pm. The event is free and no bookings are required.
