Lagoon

Finally a clear night so had a go at Lagoon which has been on my target list for some time. So many clouds lately I thought it was going to pass through unseen !
100 frames, 20 secs, ISO1600 unguided, no filters. (33 min 20sec)
SONY A77SLT through the Lunt 102mm ED
Processed in DSS, FITSWORK, PixBuilder, central cropped and shrunk to post.
Been so long since I last processed anything just about had to retrain !

Yeah, no filter and lots of LP is the real problem. I have had another play with it and improved it slightly but needs some serious time which I am short of at present. I'll come back to it. Thanks for the feedback.

Much better result, but the stars are really bloated. Are the subs this way too, or is this a post-processing result?

Hello Brent,

Quite a good image.
Apart from the bloated stars, this image has a lot of data that can be brought out with more levels and curves in PS.
Here's my try at it, but I tend to over-do it a bit. (maybe over-saturated colors and sky too dark?)

Regards,
Tony.

Wow Tony, so there was a good picture hiding in there !! Even just in the small jpeg. Original files are 12 megs each.

Obviously I have a lot more to learn in processing skills. Can you give a short list of what you did if possible, in particular getting the bloated stars under control and how you maintained the red of the neb but cleaned up the background. Seems to be a lot more steps involved than I am using.

Thanks for the demo result though, at least I am getting good data
Now I've got something to have a real go at.. should keep me busy.

Another reprocess from the original tif file rather than the first very red jpeg you worked with. A bit more natural and subtle (IMO anyway )
