Ken, No. We normally sail from around 12.00 noon till about 4.30/5.00. every Sat. at Dunmore Lake. L.
They are strictly wind powered, and we sail to the *Olympic Rules*.

Rajah235........I use to race yachts at the Manly club here in Brisbane.......Its a fantastic Hobby I loved heaps...I use to race in the 1meter class...what class is that....looks like "M" class or is it all in fun day.....with many different models....

It was by far the best R/C hobby I have had....lot better then petrol cars.....

Yeah my 1 meter yacht had 3 sets of sails.....the number 1 set was about 5 1/2 ft tall going down to 3 ft for number 3 rig...

I think I would rather be in a yacht racing, I love going out with a friend who has a 40 footer. Still learning how to sail, but I can trim the sails and use the tiller at the same time now. Still it looks marginally interesting. Thanks for sharing with us Laurie.

Nice Yachts, I've always had a bug for an RC Yacht. Pic attached is not quite a Yacht but may be of interest. Hasn't flown, been too busy the last few years finishing my house. Maybe we should start a thread... "Boys and their toys"

I love RC stuff, I used to fly Radio Controlled Aircraft, mainly fixed wing power. http://onkaparinga.tripod.com/ <---website of the club I used to be in. A bit too expensive now for me, the insurance is a killer.

Now I just stick to Astronomy, Storm Chasing, Amature Radio, Geocaching, Lightining photography, photography in general, and sitting on here talking you you fine bunch

Geocaching is like a treasure hunt with a GPS. Takes you to places you never knew existed in your own backyard. see www.geocaching.com for details.

A bit away from the topic. Sorry guys...

Hi guys. The main classes that are sailed today are, International One Metre, IOM,(1metre O/A, and very restricted), Marblehead (50" O/A, sort of like the F1 class of Radio Yachting. lotsa mods allowed), Soling,(again 50" O/A, but diff. restricted hull shape), 10 rater,(bit complicated to explain), A class, (bigger again but can weigh as much as 15/25 kgm/30/45lbs). Then there are the Catamarans & Trimarans. Diff. classes in these as well.
I only run a Marblehead, as they can be rather expensive to buy or make up.
Luckily with the insurance, we have a $10meg Aust. wide coverage, with member to member as well. Also the individual clubs do not have to be Inc'd. just affiliated to the state Inc'd Society, which in turn is covered by the A.R.Y.A.Inc.
It's very similar to what we, as AA's now have, don't you think? Wonder why????? I Thank You.
The main link is to the A.R.Y.A. (www.radiosailing.org.au), with links to lots of other stuff world wide.
BTW, The IOM, (1mtr), World Cup will be held at Kawana Waters in Qld. on the 15 to 26th Sept. 2005 if anyone is interested. You will see what International Comp.sailing is all about!

Beren, depending on class, each has between 2.2kg (1 mtr boats), and 20kg (A class boats),of lead, as ballast in/on the carbon fibre keel which can be around 600mm long. Unless the keel falls off, the boat can never*fall down*. As the wind strength increases, the boat heels more and inso doing spills air from the sails. We have had some sink tho.(Req'd a diver to retrieve), when the hatch cover comes off. NO foam for bouyancy, adds weight!
My Marblehead keel and bulb come in at 3.4 kg(7.5lbs). All up boat at 11.5 lbs. with No.1 rig (A set), for winds up to 10/15 kph. Change to smaller rig when wind increases. L.
We do have a rescue boat tho.
