Meade ETX-105 - Price Drop

Hi all,

Was looking through this the other night have decided to keep it. Optics on these things are great and throw in the computer control, I'm not going to be able to replace it for the price.

Cheers,

- Earl

Hi folks,

Having a bit of a telescope cleanout and I've decided sell some of the ones that aren't getting much use.

First up is my Meade ETX-105. I purchased this telescope about 12 months ago second hand and it has been a great little performer. I've had a few of these ETX telescopes over the years and they offer superb views. The 105 model is a bit beefier than the original 90, but still fairly portable. When you pick it up, you realise this is a solid, well-made piece of gear. *The* place on the web for ETX info is of course Mike Weasner’s site - www.weasner.com/etx

Included is the Meade table top tripod, carrying case and a USB to serial convertor that allows you to plug it into a modern laptop without a serial port to control the scope via your favourite astronomy software such as Stellarium etc. Please note it does not come with the Meade field tripod.

The Autostar has been updated to the latest firmware.

Bad points? The battery holder doesn't seem to work. Not a major drama as 8 AA batteries really don't power it long enough to be useful. A 12v car lighter adaptor is included so you can run it off one of those jump start packs you can pick up for not much or grab a 12v plug pack from Jaycar. The focuser extension cable was dropped somewhere in a field outside of Coonabarabran (good luck finding that!) so it’s a case of twirling a spindle, buying a small knob from Jaycar or buying another extension cable on ebay or even an electric focuser.

The previous owner attached a red dot finder as well. A bit ugly, but does the job and would need only you cut a cable tie to remove it if it bothers you. Standard Meade finder is included. Also included are two Meade eyepieces. I have a stack of spare eyepieces of various sizes and could possibly swap these out to help fill in the gaps of the purchaser's collection.

Asking price is $490 and pick up is from Oyster Bay in the Sutherland Shire south of Sydney.

Cheers,

Earl

PS: Yes, the Zombie hunting permit comes with it as well. I checked with the appropriate NSW govt department re this and it can be transferred. Not sure whether you’re allowed to hunt them in National Parks though…

Hi all,

Just lowered the price of the Meade ETX-105 slightly.

To answer some questions I've had:

1. Yes, it's a full GOTO telescope.
2. Yes, you can connect it to your PC and drive it around that way as well, but you will need to align it with two or three stars first.

Cheers,

- Earl
