Bought a new watch a week ago, another to the collection. Those of you that are satisfied with only one timepiece need read no further.
The watch is a Casio Sea Pathfinder SPS-300C moon tide watch. I bought the watch mainly for it's tide prediction capability (fishing), but quickly realised it is a very useful tool for astro use. The watch shows moon phase, although only in quarter increments, however it will allow rough calculation of new moon/full moon. The watch also shows tides after setting Longitude and an offset value from a table which lists most places in Australia. There are a number of features which are useful to the Astro user as well. There are 5 alarms that can be set, useful for multiple alerts during your viewing schedule. There is a countdown timer adjustable between 1 and 60 minutes in 1 minute increments and of course the usual stopwatch. There is also a dual time facility allowing UTC and local time to be diaplayed. To top it off the watch also has an automatic backlight so that when you move it from the horizintal position to greater than 45 degrees (lift the watch to read) the backlight comes on. Saves fumbling in the dark for the backlight switch. So in all I am very pleased, I bought a watch for fishing but ended up with a great astro tool. $79 recession riddled buckazoids at K mart.
would be if I could hear the damn alarms, I'm getting a little deaf as I age and unfortunately the beep frequency is in a range that I can hardly hear. The unit came with a lunitidal chart for Aus with some locations, of course it ended going through the wash (left in a shirt pocket), but on the plus side I found a much more comprehensive list
