After much gnashing of teeth, tearing of hair and general pandemonium I finally found a process that works. I converted the frames to TIF and went back to DSS 3.2.2 to stack them. So 58 frames in exposure groups of 5, 10, 15 & 20 secs totalling 17 minutes all at ISO 800 with the SONY A77 and the Lunt. No filter and there is some serious vignetting due to the optical train setup I had at the time. But I'm happy to get something decent out of it and even the Running Man Neb can be seen.
I still haven't figured out why DSS 3.3.3 beta is not working for me.

I have attempted the above set of files for the same image and get an white output with the colour signal spread wide apart as though stretched way out. If I use the RGB controls and close up the ends I can see some pink image as though the data is there but is just about off the chart.
This happens on three different computers, my Win 7 64 at home, Win 7 32 and Win XP SP3 PC's at work. But now and then it will work. Does it for both ARW and the TIFF files from the SONY.
Any idea what might be the cause ?
Erik, processing in Pix Builder Studio and yes I pushed the green a bit because that is what brought the Running Man up. I don't do any processing in DSS but I have to work with a saved image file as I haven't got anything to open the Autosave file 32 bit TIF with. I have Photoshop Elements which I thought did but it seems it doesn't.
Hi Brent I had a similar problem last year , it was strange as I found that by using the curves tool in PS in the opposite direction ( make the graph curve to the right ) gave an acceptable picture. I am still trying to think what I did to get it to work , suspect it was the DSLR settings bottom left on the DSS screen.

I've just downloaded the DSS manual, FAQs and technical data and will do some serious reading. I've been stacking using the simplest process I can so may be not ticking all the right boxes possibly. There are more options in there that I have ignored for too long. I certainly have not touched the DSLR settings so thats a good place to start.

Good luck , I may soon be asking you for some tips. I'm still only using the basic functions of DSS and have for quite a number of years with video astronomy.
