first attempt :)

Hi all,
got out with my Canon EOS 7D tonight and had a bit of a snap around the sky Pretty happy with the results

First picture is the Milky Way from my light polluted back yard. Crux, Musca, IC 2602, NGC 3372 and a couple of clusters at the top of the frame that i don't recognize?
~25 second exposure, F/3.5, ISO 1000, 10 second auto shoot and 18-55mm lens

Next is a shoot of Orion's Belt with my favourite DSO M42, glowing brightly. Jupiter is visible at the bottom centre of frame.
20 second exposure, F/4, ISO 800, 10 second auto shoot and 18-55mm lens

My congratulations

Hello,

In my opinion, very good result, particularly because of catching the Milky Way. I see, you have light pollution (fortunately, you caught clouds, and they shows its level). By the way, what can you say about its level by youself: what level in Bortle's Scale (or simply name visible objects)?
What about taking a picture of LMC/SMC?

Hi Vasya,

Thank you for your kind words. On Bortle's scale, I would rate the sky a 4. I'm not sure what LMC or SMC is abbreviated for, sorry.

Not knowing which image you were asking about, see these plate solutions.

Hi Jezza94,
The cluster on the left is IC2391, and the right hand
one is NGC 2516. They are both shown in Nortons and Sky Atlas 2000.
regards raymo
