M17 - a repro

Well at this rate I'll have reprocessed my entire collection...

Here's a repro of the M17 data that I took back in August last year. It's become very apparent that I was going through a high contrast phase in my processing back then.

I think I've now got a better handle on my colour management and a better understanding of how my Baader UHC-S filter affects the colours. I'm also getting a better feel for some of the finer points of processing - I hope!

Anyway, here's the new and the old for you all to look at - hopefully the new isn't as painful on the eye as the old was.

Cheers,
Mario

PS I look at what I'd posted last year and wonder how did I stray from the path of righteousness.

Another nice improvement Mario.

Were your old versions processed with StarTools?

Ross.

Ross,

Yes they were but I wasn't as up on some of the modules as I am now. Also I'm not sure what I was thinking at the time but I don't really like what I'd done in my first attempts.

StarTools is fantastic - I just needed to learn to control my enthusiasm using all the nice goodies it provides!!

Cheers,
Mario

you haven't changed your monitor by any chance? (or perhaps changed the settings on your monitor...?)

From my own (very limited) experience I have noticed that my images look quite different depending on what i am viewing them on (desktop, my imaging laptop, work computer, iphone etc etc).

i'm going through a repro phase as well. Now that im using new software (in my case PixInsight) there is so much more hidden in my early images from last year than I ever realised

It's funny you should say that! Yes I have recalibrated my monitor since those high contrast days...
