Help with Canon 7D

Hi all - got a Canon EOS 7D today. with a 15-85mm lense
took it outside... bummer, what do i do?!

I have tried these settings, all I get is a black screen. What am i doing wrong?

F/3.5, ISO 800 and exposure at 15 seconds. This is in Manual mode with RAW format.

When the exposure is set at 15 seconds, isn't it meant to take 15 seconds before the shutter closes? It closes instantly for some reason. Maybe I have something else set

How do I change the exposure?

What are recommended settings for photos of Star Fields? I also tried M42 to no avail. I can see it through the eyepiece, but not in the final image.

I bought an 1100D, and found the instruction book to be easy to follow-But I don't know about the 7D. Have you turned on LiveView? You should be able to see an image on the screen.

Yeah mate, worked that one out quickly. the only thing confusing me is how the shutter is closing instantly, even when the exposure is set to 15-25 seconds.

Hi Jeremy,

Sounds like your set to 1/15th second shutter speed not 15 seconds... if it says 15 on the LCD it means a fractio of second, ie 15 = 1/15, turn the front wheel until it displays 15" (with a " mark) that means seconds.

Hope that helps.
