Long term car storage

Can anyone recommend anywhere to store a small campervan for around 6 months, that's within a days travelling of Sydney?

Basically I bought a campervan in December, did some travelling in it, but now need to head back to the UK for a bit. Trying to sell a campervan in February is turning out to be hard work.

Seeing as I'm going to be back when my permanent residency comes through, it seems wasteful to sell the camper at a few thousand dollars less than I bought it. But on the other hand storing it at a few hundred dollars a month in Sydney is also expensive.

I'm guessing there must be places to store vehicles at about $50 a month in rural NSW somewhere nearby - but I can't seem to find them.

Hi Dan

There is a reasonably large caravan park at Heathcote in Sydney's South that has caravans in storage. It may be worth a try, have no idea what the cost would be. I passed it each day when I lived at Waterfall a few years ago.

Good luck with it all.

Hi Dan,
Sorry to hear of your problem.
But can't you find a friend who will park it on their front yard for 6 months. (I would but I already have my own taking up all available space).
Or could you offer to let a mate use it for 6 months at mates rates?

Did you consider placing it with a used RV dealer, to sell at your best price, on consignment. If it sells great! If not, just pick it up and drive it away after 6 months when you return.

Edit:
BTW: We have a caravan storage place here in Wyong. Well Tuggerah to be more exact. But I don't know the rates.
I can check for you if you like. What sort of Campervan it it? (Dimensions?)

Hi Allan,

It's a little under 5meters long - which sounds a lot to me, but it fits in a normal car park space.

"can't you find a friend who will park it on their front yard "

I live in Sydney, no one even has front yards, let alone one that has enough space for an extra

"Did you consider placing it with a used RV dealer,"

I hadn't and will look into this. I suspect this may not be feasible without again losing thousands on the price of the van as there are just so many backpackers trying to offload them at the moment in Sydney.

cheers
Dan

Hi Dan, how about putting it out here on iceinspace, I am sure there are members who live out of the city with acreage would let you leave it on their properties till you return.
I would but I live in Queensland.
Best of luck
Cheers

With Ice In Space Astrocamp just over a month away why not kill 2 birds so to speak?

Offer the use of the van for IISAC in return for the storage of it while you are away?

I'm sure someone who is wanting to go, has the storage space and doesn't feel like pitching a tent wouldn't mind the luggsury of a camper instead of sleeping on the ground?

Worth a shot if you don't mind someone using it?

We are a responsible bunch!

Cheers

Chris
