16" Meade DS f4.5 mirror for sale

Hi everyone,

I have got a 16" f4.5 newtonian mirror for sale. It was new in 1980 and hasn't been realuminised in all that time. I have included a photo that shows the surface detail best.

I will accept $400.00 o.n.o plus postage.

Hi Lester

At F 4.5 what focal lenght would that equate to, meaning the tube could be fairly short i expect.
Do you still have the tube as well, by chance.

I have an 8 inch f 7.0 newt, and that has a focal length of approx 56 inches.

Also what is the condition of the mirror, i presume it would require re Aluminizing

Hi all,

I know I have been pretty quiet of late, family and work has consumed most if my spare time since the SPSP.

I came home from work early today as I was feeling quite unwell. To cheer myself up I logged onto IIS just to check on the latest and ........ there it was, my ultimate aim, I just had to have it

Thanks heaps Lester I can't wait for it to arrive!

I was just about to buy a 12" GSO dob for the mirror and parts for my 12" string truss dob project with the eventual aim of building a 16" version. Fortunately all I have done is cut a couple of rings for the UTA so I haven't wasted much plywood. Everything else I have will be OK for a 16" version.

I have got a couple of other scope projects coming up for CAS and I might be able to use the rings there.

Back to the drawing board now

BTW, Lester did indicate to me that in its previous installation star images did exhibit some assymetric flaring with increasing magnification. This might indicate some astigmatism in this mirror. I won't be able to investigate this until I have built the scope. If it does need refiguring it won't be such a good bargain but I am happy to take that risk.

Cheers,
