Eta Carinae Complex - my first mosaic

These are 2 already processed images of NGC 3324 and NGC 3372 mosaiced together. It is simply an experiment to try out mosaic work - next time I will do all the stacking of the raw subs in DSS then process, but just needed to try it out.

Used Microsoft ICE for the processing, then TRIED to match the colours of the 2 panels in PS CS 5.1. Came FAIRLY close.

Anyway, now I know I can do it, I'll gather the data again and run it through DSS in mosaic overlap mode. I SHOULD have the subs here still - I HOPE (lost a fair bit recently by mistake)

You've got some wild looking colour there Lewis. Very cool.

ICE is a really great mosaicking engine. Beats the pants off PhotoShop in my experience. I used it on a set of ~60 40x microscope images to make a mosaic that at 150 dpi spanned 9m. Since we didn't have a motorised stage ($30K NZ too expensive) I needed software that could handle my shifted-by-hand images. There was some positive distortion in the images too which PhotoShop just couldn't handle. ICE had no issue.

Cheers,
Cam

Thanks guys.

ICE is BRILLIANT. Canon's Photostitcher was an abysmal failure, as was ArcoPano.

ICE JUST missed a TINY slice in the bottom left - I filled that in in PS. Another panel in the blank areas would fix that.

A nice looking image!

I'm another fan of ICE, using it to make panoramas from our holiday snaps. It works a treat with no drama at all! I'd wondered how it would go with astro images and you've provided the answer!

Cheers,
Mario

Think its the best thing to put sliced bread back together.
It was a nightmare In PS and I gave up hope of getting it together.
