Astrodon vs Astronomik LRGB filters

Hi all

Looking at getting some filters for my QSI583WSG camera and am debating which of he 2 brands to get.

Pros and cons of either would be much appreciated

I use a QSI 683wsg camera and am perfectly happy with my set of Astrodon's: 31mm LRGB plus an additional C and NIR filter. All are perfectly parfocal and performs flawlessly with no unwanted reflections etc. They are also very solid being 3mm thick.
I don't have anything to compare with though as this is my only filter set.

I have both Baader, Astronomik and Astrodon. My Astronomiks are the earlier generation before they brought out the low reflection models.

I got OK colour from Baader (biased to the reds), pleasing with Astronomiks (but they are thin like 1mm and need spacers to be held in place with some filter wheels), Astrodon gave me best colours most easily every time. So Astrodon's are my standard filters.

Mike Sidonio uses Astronomiks and his images speak for themselves.

Astrodons are the most expensive as well which is a negative.

Depends what sort of sensor you have. The E series filters are designed for Kodak KAF sensors and the I series are for the Kodak KAI sensors.

Parfocal relates to the consistency in thickness. So to be parfocal the filters need to be within a specific accuracy. I forget that accuracy but its pretty fine - a few microns.

Astronomiks must be good that way. Baader are not parfocal despite saying they are and Astrodons are reasonably parfocal - close enough you may not bother with refocusing between filters.

While Astrodons are good, they bleed signal across RGB. I'd recommend reading a paper by Dr. Alan Holmes on this. Custom Scientific have the least cross-talk.
