Funny thing, you could wait a lifetime to catch the little buggers, they are quick and quite shy. They landed at least half a dozen times outside my study window (2 metres away) while I was browsing the forum so I just picked up the camera and waited and shot through the closed window.

It is highly unlikely that you have offended anyone, certainly not me and I’m sure not RB who asked an honest question. Like you, I haven’t read the guidelines; didn’t even know that there were any!

Purely by chance, it seems that I assumed that photos had to be taken by the poster – purely by chance you didn’t, but no harm was done or intended by anyone.

So, don’t go away for the wrong reason. Get that camera out and let’s see your stuff – it could be quite interesting given the previous photos you posted? It would be a real shame if you missed the daily fun at IIS, and equally well we may miss your talent, so pause a while before you go.

Cheers

RB
31-08-2007, 09:39 AM
No one was offended Noddy, my apologies if it came across this way.
I didn't want to offend you because there was every possibility that you actually did take those photos and they look very professional.
My apologies also as I took for granted that people would post their own photos so we can see their work and hence did not outlined this in the rules, I've amended it now. Also there are copyright issues we have to be mindful of when posting on the forum.

As Dennis has so eloquently stated please don't go away, there was no intentional harm done.

Dennis
26-10-2007, 06:46 PM
Okay, I’ve waited long enough for an ISS or Shuttle photo. Materials and equipment used by a Space faring nation on missions.

Velcro:
1969 Jun 7 - Use of Velcro in Apollo CSM discussed
ASPO Manager George Low suggested to MSC Director of Flight Crew Operations Donald K. Slayton that beginning with Apollo 12 Velcro applications should be "in a spacecraft configuration and not vice versa." In the past, Velcro applications had presumably been made in the spacecraft to conform to the configurations used in training.

Buzz Aldrin's Apollo 11 Suit
http://history.nasa.gov/alsj/a11/AldrinLEVA7.jpg

Space pen:
The famous space pen, which is still a popular product today, was developed by Paul Fisher the founder of the Fisher pen company. An engineer who improved ball point technology, he created his "bullet pen" in the 1940's, which became one of the best-selling pens of the Twentieth Century. Later, he perfected a pen that was sealed with pressure inside of the cartridge that made the ink to flow regardless of gravity. It also worked in high and low temperature extremes, underwater, and wrote on many kinds of surfaces. According to the Fisher Pen company, after extensive testing, NASA chose the pen in 1967 for use by Apollo astronauts and it's been a part of space travel ever since. The company says it took Fisher about 2 years and $2 million to develop the space pen. Prior to 1967, there were no pens that worked in space so there were pencils used, but there were concerns about pencil dust floating around the space capsules as well as fears that if the tip of a pencil broke off and drifted into the electronics, there would be problems.

At salute is Dr Warrick Raverty who gave a colourful and stinging speech (http://tasmaniantimes.com/index.php?/weblog/article/rpdc-anniversary-of-a-serial-killing-james-james-priority-prioirity-priorit/). Dr Raverty was on the Government panel who were assesing the controversial pulp mill, when it became obvious the company couldn't meet the guidelines set by legislation, the legislation was changed, the assesment panel dismissed and a backdoor deal brokered to allow the mill without proper environmental standards. If you're unaware of the background surrounding this process it's worth reading Dr Raverty's speech and this essay by award winning Tasmanian Author Richard Flanagan.
