HI all, and a Merry Christmas season from NZ. I don't post here often -don't even have an avatar - but I do lurk a fair bit in the background. Anyway, this is one of the kiwi faces to put a name to.

If you've watched the tv series Ashes to Ashes you'll "get" this picture...if not, well I don't normally frown like this, I'm usually smiling a lot more!

Have a great festive season, and I hope the goodies roll in for you, or rather get carried in, if it happens to be a new scope that Mr Clause is bringing you!

Be well, and regards,

Hi Trevor, I love that pic of you and the dog, he looks so adorable. And they look so spoiled judging from your avitar too. Ever since The Bionic Woman got Max I've wanted a German Shepherd. :D My distinction between reality and fantasy may get a bit blurred tho so that's probably why I don't have one yet  They can't reeeally stop a car with their teeth now can they
Did I just say that publicly...

Grant, great to finally put a face to all our on-line conversations. ;) And I love your scope, it's a beauty! :D

John, I don't know the show, but you look like you're about to take me away to a cold grey cell. Might be worth 5 mins inside said cell for a ride in that car though... Not many cars go purrrrrrr these days now do they. I bet that car does. :D
Stop lurking so much and join us more. ;)

Steve, this site has a tendency to become rather addictive. First the addiction hits, then the aperture fever strikes. :help: Then we spend the rest of our time earning brownie points from our partners.:P

It's been really great to see so many of you posting pics, thank you for sharing.

Hi all,
Well been around here for about a couple of years or so now.
Got interested in the stars when at the end of my grade six year 1965 we were given a free choice of a project to fill in the last week of school.
I chose to do a project on the Solar System.

Been looking at the stars ever since but always with other peoples telescopes, my wife expressed interest a couple of years back and the rest is history. I don't need an excuse to buy gear now it's pre sanctioned.
A lot may know my nephew ALEXN who had been around here for some time doing some nice work, I did here he may get back into this stuff again.

Here's a couple of shots of me and the wife Carol, the daughter and grand kids and my little mate Casper who helps me with things.

(Pass me a screw driver and I'll have this fixed in a jiffy)

Nico.

Hi All, I have been hanging around the forums for around a year, I have loved looking at the stars since my parents bought me a small cheap tasco telescope for my 8th birthday back in 1985. I am married with 3 children, sebastian who is 6, Nicole who is 8 and isaac who is 12, i have been married to my wife for 13 years, I started dating her when i was 17 years old.

I live 12kms from the little sleepy town of cobargo, on a 100 acre property.

I cant think of anything more relaxing than watching the stars with a hot cup of coffee and Vangelis playing in the back ground.

Hello to all,

I am new to his forum. My name is Harro (44) and I live down under (as seen from your perspective), in the Netherlands.
Like the most of you I also have a livelong attraction to the starry skies. Furthermore I can get very enthousiastic about building telescopes from surplus materials. Starting with LEGO and carton-rolls in the seventies, but using steel, aluminum and pyrex nowadays.
My pride and joy is a lightweight 16 inch Dobson with an integrated Poncet-platform.
Recently, I also coöperated in the development of the iphone-app Darkskymeter.
In the past I have been quite active at the Dutch Astroforum.nl.

My first contact with Ice in Space was 6 years ago: when looking for inspiration for Dobson-projects, I stumbled upon the wonderful minimalistic telescopes of your forum-member Alan Scott.

The reason I have registered for the Australian Ice in Space-forum is the following:
My sister is living in the hills west of Brisbane. We are planning to visit her in 2015 (We=my wife and two kids).
This will be my first visit to the southern hemisphere, so I will be confronted with new and unexplored views of the heavens. I hope this forum can act as a starting guide in this.
Maybe there will be possibilities to visit some Australian starparties. Or maybe explore the possibilities to borrow a telescope.
Anyway: I would like to arrive a kind of prepared for some astronomical adventures in the summer (your winter!) of 2015.

Best regards

Harro Treur

Just a day's fairly gentle walk through the Western Galilee area, Andrew. Nothing too strenuous :D

The night astro expedition was very hazy. At least some haze is pretty standard here nearly every day of the year. I've seen about three clear days in the last 11 months Sometimes visibility down to under a km. Also, although it was about the darkest location in Northern Israel based on the light pollution map, I could see the distant lights of around 200,000 houses, shops etc. all around.

RB
11-07-2014, 09:36 AM
Beautiful area The Galilee !
Yes I can imagine it's near impossible to find dark skies there and I remember the haze.

ha ha tama one of my only claims to fame in life is that "herself" spent an obscene amount of money on sunglasses in my shop in about an hour
a weird thing when her PR lady gave me this credit card that was made of stone or something................. well it declined!, it was an amex and my eftpos was not set up for it ha ha
anyhow this is a picture of her at the singapore gp the day after her spend, the other is deffo my frame, unmistakeable as my practice secured this range from a bespoke opticians in venice called ottica carraro

Just saw this post a pic section so thought I'd get in board.
I'm a 29 year old truck from the Mornington peninsula Victoria. Probly would not look like someone who spends their free time and weekend nights staring through an eyepiece but I'm sure amateur astronomers come in all shapes and sizes. Maybe this pic will give you guys who've helped me out an idea of who you've helped haha

Tried to use the 'UserCP' to insert a pic of self (tiny jpeg less than 15kb) and it failed. Then tried to copy/paste into the reply window, also a fail. Any ideas as to why? (Maybe rejected on account of my being technologically stoopid, :P Or too ancient (a pic of me in my Roman armour).

Cheers,

Absolutely.
I'd be in trouble without mine. Problems with my knees and ankles.
The good thing about mine, is that it's large enough to transport both my telescope and the chair I use as a stand for it. So anywhere I can get to and from, using public transport, is accessible for me to take my telescope to for astronomy.
It's also is used as my shopping trolley, since there's no way to also push a shopping trolley when you have to use a wheelie walker.

I built a motorised one with a platform upon which to stand.
I have not finished it which is a pity its only a couple of hours away from completion.

I call it a poor mans segway☺
However its a great idea...I may have to build two small gear boxes I just remembered...That is why I am mentally putting it off I think.

Congrats Nik on the ZWO award and you don’t look a day over 40 mate
The only award I’ve ever received was from Bintel back in 2019 , image of the month , NGC 253 Sculptor Galaxy shot with my old Canon 600D and 6” Newt.
I’m not really into awards , competitions etc… but my wife said why not , give it a go , I received a $50 store credit. Don’t know if Bintel are still running these awards ?

Cheers
