Just another day at the office. Me and my trusty assistant at work in the Australian Alps - I'm the pretty one on the left.
Also, my brute of a scope (114x900 reflector, motorised Alt-Az mount, adapted 2-speed electric focuser, NexImage, GSO 2x Barlow + lots of other plastic junk). Aperture what??!!

Er about the family shot I left out two wives and another daughter (8years)..but its the little one in the centre I would like you all to notice...my first grand child.. I know I look far too young to even be a father but there you go:lol:
Byron Bay is the most Easterly point in Australia..Tabulam is West of that..inland between Casino(East) and Tenterfield (West)... 29 degrees South by 152 east approx... if you look at a map you will see a bend like a horse shoe in the Rocky river..I am on the North Bank..
MMMM frying sausages is there no better sport... I like to boil them a bit first before they go on the bar be que..
All these photos tell me we have a very nice bunch here...all movie stars in their own right no doubt of that..

Well it must be my turn to show myself. This is me in my other persona with the local fire brigade, and my thoughts are fully with all those being affected over in Victoria, especially the fireries battling the fires. The next is my wife Margaret and our clan of clowns. The Bernese (the black one) is now 53kg. He was just 12 weeks old for this pic. They love getting around our feet when observing. The final pic is my old and new gear. The white 2 1/2" tasco was a christmas present from my parents when I was about 13.

Tenterfield and Casino I’ve found in my “Cosmopolitan Worldatlas”,
Ah, that is the region who live the Coala bears, sitting in eucalyptus (http://dict.tu-chemnitz.de/dings.cgi?o=3021;service=deen;iserv ice=en-de;query=eucalyptus) trees ?

Tabulam is a rogue state in Northern N.S.W.
my brother is the 'KING' of Tabulam
here are a few photo's of the Kingdom
Tabulam (the town) is a ways down the hill off into the distance a bit
and by the way - this is what WE call a barbecue (area)
some of you may recognise the King's nephew

Yes Geof indeed "Jimmy the Bee Man" is "King". I knew Jimmy from my days in Paramatta (we drank at "The General Bourke Hotel" the only pub I have been barred from for decking someone" so it was a surprise when in "Tabby Pub" the first time I hear a voice from the other end of the bar "Alex what are you doing here" ..mmmm small world eh Jimmy. You drive near 1000 klms and can still find a friendly face.)
I recognise "Arty" and "Terry" in the photo but Micheal needs a close up... is that where Bintel test their products?;)
However folks as good as the photos are of the lay of the land one has to see Jimmy's spot to comprehend the view..It is really something he must be able to see almost to the coast.. I think you can see Mt Warning from there ..that would be something to see the first sunlight hitting Australia on that mount whilst you are still semi dark... I have asked him if I can do some lightening shots there which he has agreed to...but I would love to get Mt Warning at dawn.
AND Ipson I have never seen a Koala around there (within 200klms).. does not mean they are not present, but we see more kangaroos ( I have about 12 come round home at dawn and dusk) ....mmm you can bar be que kangaroo and I think there is a butcher in Casino who makes sausages with Kangaroo ..I know he sells Emu meat and pretty sure he does a bit of kangaroo...its tuff however but very good meat health wise.

[WadeH] I absolutely love the Bernese Mountain Dog. I don't think you will ever regret having taken him under your care (unless you are averse to deep, long tunnels being dug in your yard). A good friend used to have a female of the breed; I mentioned on a couple of occasions that if she had to go for some reason I'd take her off his hands in a flash. The only negative side was that, while she had a reasonable area in which to exercise, if she 'got away' she'd disappear for hours - though she always came home (usually with some other dog's feeding dish in her mouth).

Yes John the Bernese are a wonderful breed and Dylan likes nothing more than lots of hugs and attention. Our property is 5 acres with this winter creek running through the middle. Sophie and Dylan (now 1 3/4 years old) love to run amok in it!! Sophie thinks she is a Bernese Mountain Terrier   and is from the dog refuge, she was abandoned as a 10 week old pup and is now 4 yrs.

Finally I found a photo that wasn’t too dull and boring, as I might appear in just a simple portrait, although I had to go back to the early 1990’s when I was an active hill walker and occasional mountaineer.
Here I am on a training climb in the French Alps – the big mountain in the background is Mont Blanc (4,808m / 15,774ft). The training peak was the Tour Ronde (3730m) which we climbed to acclimatise ourselves before ascending Mont Blanc via the Aiguilles de Gouter route, (the easy way up), being more of a high altitude walk rather than a technical climb.
Although physically it is not who I am now, (age and all of that), my spirit hasn’t changed and it brings back fond memories of some wonderful times I had amidst those beautiful mountains, in the company of great friends. Not unlike dwelling here, in the Ice In Space community.
Cheers

Hi,
Sorry, have not been at the PC today until now.
The winner is..............St. Ives!!
Yes, we walked down to this lovely spot as the tourist buses are not allowed in (a good thing too) and enjoyed ourselves with Devonshire tea and a bit of shopping. We were amused because no shopkeeper would accept the Scottish notes we had (muttering things about "furriners") and we had to call in the local bank and exchange it for real money. The teller said it was customary there, and ran back generations. It has only been 260 yrs since Culloden after all.
Doug, pm me and I'll post you a set of Bunnings main mirror springs if you like, they go well as a replacement in GSO and Bintel dobs, especially the big ones (I see you have a refractor though).

I would be interested to find some local Astronomers in the south eastern suburbs in Melbourne.

I can't help you with the Melbourne question. You have skills, aj, which quite obviously exceed my own. I rather like the little arrow - I'm assuming it points to where you light the wick and then retire?
Welcome aboard. There is a number of like minded and skilled artisans who frequent this forum so I doubt you will lack for kindred spirits.
Jealous? Moi?
Hi Alan that looks a fine telescope you made. I am sure you will find someone around Melbourne area on here.

This refractor was desdigned and built in 1990. The telescope houses a vintage Carl Zeiss Jena objective lens. The telescope mount and drive system were built by the Edward R. Byers company. The pier was also custom designed. The telescope is located in Los Angeles, California. (J.Pons)

hahaha yeah, it's from my favourite anime, which is Hellsing. The character is Alucard - an ultra powerful vampire who is basically invincible. He works for the Hellsing family, a British group charged by the Royal family and British government to take out vampires and zombies. I won't say too much as it'd spoil the storyline, but it's an awesome anime well worth buying ($60 from JB hi fi).
Alucard is such an awesomely cool, but erratic and powerful character. Plus he packs some wicked weaponry and his magical powers are well...immense.
The piccie wasn't meant as a serious image of myself, was tongue in cheek, I guess others couldn't see that. Here's me with my halo:
http://www.macro-images.com/web/dave.jpg
The halo was added to prove to the girls @ work that I was an angel before I started working where I do now, and that they corrupted me.

Dave, I'm not a huge anime fan, but, if you are, you seriously have to check out Samurai Champloo. It was created by the same mob that did Cowboy Bebop. It is absolutely superb! Had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Check it out on IMDb.
Also, the most random anime I have ever seen is FLCL. In fact, it was so random, they only managed six episodes! See if you can get that, too, for some incredible artwork.

Like others on this forum I am camera shy and have very few images of myself other than our wedding photograph album. Given that the latter were taken almost 39 years ago any one of them would be somewhat irrelevant.
So I'm attaching one taken about a year ago. It is of me leaning against our 'new' second-hand car. You will note that it's a station wagon ('Estate' to those of you in the U.K.). The reason for that was twofold; firstly because I often carry cartons to the post office and secondly, of course, because it would be easier to load the dob mounted Newtonian. Needless to say the Newt. has yet to leave home. *sighs*
My apologies for the dreadful image, but it's the best that I can find.
