not being a win 7 spurt, you could see what programmes are listed for startup in or follow the lead for a fix from microsoft?

Are you using this program for anything in particular? If not I would just uninstall it through the add/remove programs section and it should stop it from appearing again.

Is there anything else that's acting strange on you computer?

configfree is a toshiba program add on. It can be removed. The program was shown on the task bar of my Toshiba with Windows 8 but I never got the pop up. However I un-installed the program as I have no use for it.

Some say that the pop up message is caused be a trojan but I can't verify that.
Google configfree. There are many who have the same problem.

No nothing acting strange, this just started appearing after daughter connected her ipad I think.
Will see if can find in add/remove.

I wouldn't be uninstalling that..Just stop it from starting up automatically in services (local).

It's a Toshiba-installed networking diagnostic/configuration program. Here is some background info:

It's not part of Windows by default. Uninstalling may affect networking functions, since one never knows how tightly an OEM integrates their bloatware into the OS, but the drivers are separate. HP has a similar WiFi utility, andI know from experience that, in HP's case, there is no problem uninstalling it.

It seems to be the Tray menu that has failed, rather than the whole program. But, the program may not be mecessary for you, so you could choose to uninstall it - create a restore point first, of course.

There are uninstall instructions at the end of the first link - it's the normal uninstall process - no surprises there, but the first link notes that:



As others have suggested, you could stop the meny (tray) service only - try through the Task Scheduler in the Accessories - System Tools menu.

Talk about bloatware! The windows 7 (Home) folder has 77,739 files 18GB. I would expect that the average user would not ever have need to use more than 1000.

Except for graphics DOS could be run from a floppy disk 360Kb and do 90% of the computing tasks I need.

I'm not sure the 'problem' is with Toshiba's ConfigFree. I have a Acer Win 7 Home Laptop and get that message intermittently. Not for ConfigFree, of course but others like TheSkyX. I also get it on my Win 7 Pro Desktop, usually when I have just closed PixInsight. It pops up telling me that PI has stopped working (I just closed it! :shrug: ) and gives me the options shown by PeterM.

I have a Toshiba and have found it in the past, Yes it is for wireless networking providing addon support like radar and scanning features for wireless.

Yes I have removed it, and removed drivers for wireless, adding the drivers back from Toshiba site.

Yes I have blocked it - stopped services - and done a number of other things, all of which have no issues with the running machine.

Infact Most of my own laptops I create an image when new and install a fresh copy of win 7 without all the extra rubbish companies put on.

I work on corporate systems and we do the same for a lot of business machines, more trouble for setting up but in the long run no rubbish to contend with.

With all software, it will react differently on different machines, but I would do a system restore point, remove it and test. You can then restore to that point if you have major issues.
