The problem has been sending me batty (more than ususal) the fluctuation in heat levels would explain the coming and going of the miss ..the inconsitence nature was suggesting to me fuel problems.

A bit of advice needed here, Alex.
If running too hot, check:
i) leaks in the rubber cooling pipes and/or the radiator;
ii) non-functioning thermostat (replace it anyway);
iii) non-functioning water pump, or leaks in the gaskets surrounding it;
iv) damaged head gasket (look for oily residue in the radiator water) .. replace it (expensive).
Its almost guaranteed to be one of the four options above.

Fluctuating 'misses' symptom will sometimes be because of overheating of the block .. not likely to be anything related to overheating plug leads … leads don't short-out because they get too hot … sometimes (in modern computer-controlled cars), the engine top dead centre sensor can malfunction because of dirt (locate, remove, clean, replace). Otherwise check spark and leads for intermittent contacts .. (also, check the plugs for grunge).
