Hi all,

Pic of Moretus shot 26/9/2012. Named after Theodore Moret 17thC Belgian Mathematician (not to be confused with the guy of the same name on Facebook!) best known for his lengthy correspondences with European luminaries of the time.
Mighty Clavius, named for Christopher Klau, 16thC German Mathematician, is poking its nose in the picture at right.

Rutherfurd, after 19thC American astronomer Lewis has interesting floor details. Rutherfurd is a relation to the Scottish Laird, John Rutherfurd who was a polymath and friend and neighbour of Sir Walter Scott.

Blancanus after Giuseppe Biancani a 16thC Mathematician/Astronomer/cleric whose claim to fame is a disbelief in mountains on the moon and the production of an appalling map of the moon to prove his point!

Klaproth after Martin Heinrich 18thC German Chemist and first to get mineralogy organised and discovered uranium and zirconium.

casatus after Italian Paolo Casatui 17thC Jesuit mathematician.

Newton, after the greatest of them all, Isaac, English 17thC genius. The one thing about this crater is its obscurity. Surely there could be a swap with a more prominent crater to let the big fella get some air time!

Short, after James,18thC Scottish optician and telescope maker whose telescopes were and are still, legendary in their quality and innovation. Short had the world record for largest scope (19.5" reflector) for a while in the 1750's.

Gruemberger after Christoph Girenberger, 17thC Austrian astronomer who used to send corrections to other astronomers regarding their publications!

Finally, Cysatus after Jean-Baptiste Cysat, Swiss 17thC astronomer who showed that comest orbit around the sun in parabolic orbits.

22" Newtonian, DMK21, stack of 600 from 2500 frames. Stacked in Registax6 and deconvolved in Astra Image.
