24 Pan or 13 Nag

The Televue sale has me keen to acquire a new piece or two;-) My scope and EP are in my sig and give 46x, 79x & 136x. Also have a 2x Barlow.

Good size gap in the 100x range and I was going to look at the LVW 13mm but the FOV is less than the 11 Nag. I can sell the TV 32 Plossl and get a 24 Panoptic or keep the 32 Plossl and get a 13 Nag. The 32 is pretty much used as a finder only. It's never impressed me the way my other 2 EP's have.

A 2.5x powermate and the ES 6.7mm 82D have also caught my eye. I like to keep things light and don't particularly want to look at 2" EP's at this stage.

If I had the $$$ the 24 & 19 Pans, 13 &11 Nags plus the powermate would give me a pretty fine spread of mags and FOV.

The 24 Pan is wonderful and will get used a lot more than the 32 plossl. I eventually sold my 32 and 25 plossl's after getting the 24 Panoptic. It barlows well and is useful in almost any scope you might acquire in the future also. :thumbsup:

Although after the 24Pan the 13T6 is probably one of the most popular and generally useful EPs in the TV range.

I have a 13T6 Nag and had a 24 Pan. Both are really nice EPs with the 24 Pan being probably the best value EPO in the TV range. Very crisp images, sharp to the edge in my f5 12" dob and a nice FOV and decent eyerelief for 4 eyes like me!
The 13T6 is a little harder to use and in my scope needed reasonably good seeing and transparency to give quality views, but a good piece of kit nonetheless. It is my goto EP for medium powers (113x in my scope)

I thought I gave thumbs up to the 13T6 Nag:P
I love mine and it is only that the 24 Pan is soooo easy to use that I would usually recommend it as an excellent first "premium" EP that it edges out the Nag.

:thumbsup: I have both and love them both , they are different eyepieces for different jobs , but to tell the truth my 24mm Pan gets used a lot more , its an awsome eyepiece :D it just gets on with doing what a great eyepiece should do , thats get out or the way and let me observe.
Just one thing tho I dont like the 24 Pan as much as the 13mm Nagler on day time objects :shrug: , thats my opinion .
Thats another vote for the 24 Pan followed closely by my 22mm Pan :thumbsup:.

The 24mm Panoptic is the best in it's class.

The 13mm type 6 Nagler has many competitors/rivals depending on personal preference. It's great advantage over it's rivals is it's compact size. It is a lot of performance in a small package. Eyepieces that outperform it are all larger/heavier/more expensive.

Both are great eyepieces - you can't go wrong with either, but get both.

Get the ES 6.7 or the 11mm.
Great optics, waterproof and great price.
And the ultra wide 82 afov!

You don't mention what your observing habits are?

Do you o much wide sweeping, the 24 pan gves same ov as 32Pl but more mag, if I were you at 1500mm f/l I'd get something lie a 17 delos to go with the 32pl & 11nag...gives almost 90x at 0.8 deg Would Barlow nicer to 180x for high mag, I worry the 13 barlow is too much on most nights

Andrew I see from your sig. you went for the 24 Pan. Good choice.
If you want to rationalise a bit more I would be selling the 32P and 19 Pan and
going for a Nagler 16 or as Daniel suggested a Delos 17.
The 13 Nag seems too close to the 11 to justify.

If you can really only have one (and why do you need TWO kidneys anyway ?) I'd opt for the 24 Panoptic.
Wider, 'flatter', FoVs in yer dob and it barlows beautifully. I use mine in Binoviewers in my Mak, my Dob and my f6.3 refractor.
BV'd, barlowed, straight-up - they perform beautifully in everything.
Its verging on an inappropriate relationship!

I also have the 13 Nagler and it too, is an excellent mid-high power ep and I love it to pieces as well. :ashamed:
It's just a little less versatile IMHO.

Daniels suggestion is a good one. I will decide to keep or move on the 19 Pan after using it and the 24 over the next new moon. Really do like it though and it has served me well.

But the 24, 17, & 11 with a barlow would also give 8.5 and 5.5 which is a nice spread. Was hoping to move away from using a barlow under most circumstances and settling on 5 or 6 better than average EP's. Could also keep the 19 and get the 14 Delos?:shrug::confused2:

Are the ED barlows all much the same quality? Do have a shorty plus 2x but see the TV for about 3 times the price and the powermate at 4-5 times.
