Probably a very basic question, but I have never learnt how to calculate magnification when choosing different eyepieces.

Is it right to divide the scopes focal length by the eyepiece focal???

Example Scope 2000mm
Example eyepiece 10mm
Magnification 200x

Hi Erik, yes you have got it right. Magnification=focal length of scope divided by focal length of eyepiece. Also if using 2x barlow multiply mag by 2, if 3x barlow multiply by 3 .etc.

Awesome, thanks Wayne. Don't feel "too" silly now.

That is correct. Magnification = Scope FL / eyepiece FL
