Hi guys

I'm running Stellarium 0.11.2 and used to be able to alt-tab out of the application and back.

I also used to be able to use fn-print screen to be able to capture screen grabs using SnagIt.

But now, when I press alt-tab, it 'does' switch applications but the stellarium screen is still on top and I can't see the active application or anything underneath.

Any ideas?

I haven't upgraded Stellarium recently so I'm not sure what's changed the behaviour.

Do other apps have the same problem ?

If no, uninstall and reinstall Stellarium.

Otherwise your OS (Windows) might be messed up.

Are you using the Mac version? It had some bugs and 0.11.3 is now available

Stellarium 0.11.2 is obsolete. Superceded by 0.11.3 and then 0.11.4 from next week. 0.11.2 had some bugs and did not last long.

If you have Windows Get a copy of 0.11.4 (almost) from

http://barry.sarcasmogerdes.com/stellarium/uploads/stellarium-5449-win32.exe

or wait for 0.11.4 (RC1) which should be out this week.

I'm using Windows.

I'll download .4 and give that a try.

Hi Mike

If you have Windows wait about an hour and I will have a new build up loaded

http://barry.sarcasmogerdes.com/stellarium/uploads/stellarium-5531-win32.exe

This is the very latest and has some new features and a lot of bug fixes.

Is there a win64 version?

Not officially

There have been a couple of 64 bit versions tested but there is no difference between the 64 bit version and the 32 bit version on my windows 7 ultimate other than the program is in the program files instead of the program files (86). The 64 bit dependencies are still in the "beta" stage.

I have built 5531 and will have it up loaded in about 30 mins. However I am not sure about the alt/tab feature. Please test it.

Have you changed windows themes? Windows Basic and Classic themes can mess up app switching. Make sure you are running an Aero theme.

Barry, I just tried the link http://barry.sarcasmogerdes.com/stellarium/uploads/stellarium-5531-win32.exe and got a HTTP error 404 Not Found.

Did it get updated, and is there a link for the 64 bit version?

By the way, it would be nice if the "Help->About" listed the SVN patch level. It is so much simpler to check up on and report bugs if you know exactly what version you have.

I downloaded .4 from the official site.

Hi Andrew
That version was superceded by 5534. I don't compile the 64 bit version
5597 is now the latest version (0.12.0). Uploaded today
There are some big changes going on at the moment. Not many stable versions in windows for a while. Using OpenGl 2.1 and not many video cards fully support it.

Can no longer be built in Linux with versions of Ubuntu prior to 12.04 because Qt 4.8.x is needed.

I'm using the 32 bit version on a Win7 64 bit PC no problem.

Hi Andrew
I don't get what you are refering to here. (SVN hasn't been used for two years now)
If you are refering to official builds the build number will be known by the team but can be found by seaching the bazaar for the release marker.

To find the current bzr build check the stellarium web site under "Browse Bazaar"
If I upload a build to my website the build number will be part of the name.

Barry, cvs, svn, git and bzr are all interchangable as far as I'm concerned. A number of other programs I use include the repository revision number in the About info, irrespective of whether it is an alpha, beta or release. Since I usually run beta versions (I have one program that has been running in beta for six years because no-one - including me - has bothered creating a release) it would help to know if the version I'm running is ahead of or behind the release version.
Releases get tagged in the repository, so including the revision should be trivial.

I'm running Stellarium 0.11.4 on Windows 7 Home 64bit, Alt+Tab doesn't work.

I run my laptop with a 19" monitor hooked up in portrait mode for documents and eBooks. In fact I use the portrait mode for browsing the net, much better than the laptop screen.

When I Alt+Tab in Stellarium on the laptop I'm offered the option to select my other monitor, my laptop Desktop, or Stellarium, but none of them work, I always go straight back into Stellarium.

Stellarium looks weird on the 19" portrait mode monitor, only occupies the top half of the screen.
It would be handy if there was a way to setup Stellarium in portrait mode?
Any ideas Barry?

Cheers

Alt-Tab is a windows key and should normally do what windows configures it to

You can make the window size for stellarium any size you like by editing the config.ini and make full screen false

Setting up a monitor to use in portrait or landscape mode is also a function of your video drivers

Chris, how are you trying to maximize Stellarium? The "Full Screen" icon in the app, or the windows "Maximize" button.

I just tried those with NVidia's screen rotation function on my 1920x1080 laptop and they both work to fill the screen. It looks weird though.

I can plug in a 1920x1200 in portrait and run dual heads to see if it makes any difference.

I still don't follow what you are looking for.

Yes cvs,svn and bzr are repositories in Sourceforge I don't know git. We now use the bzr repository. The source that is still in cvs and svn is years out of date. This is where the source code is held. and release versions are tagged.

The release versions of stellarium are held in the stellarium projects area under their version number ie the latest official release is 0.11.4.
The previous is 0.11.3 and all the older releases are held in this area too.

If I am running a release version the only guide is on the splash screen which will give the release number.

All other versions are unofficial and my compiles use the source build number.

If you have bazaar installed you can type in a command window:- bzr help and find out about the bazaar and how it works

I can't compile 64 bit Stellarium because I need to compile a 64bit version of Qt 4.8.2 (about a 10GB folder). But I need mingw 64bit to do this and that also needs to be compiled however I can't compile mingw 64 at the moment because my virus detector says it has a trojan and won't let me get past the point where it tries to read the virus bearing file.

Andrew, the attached pic shows what I get in portrait mode.
Stellarium opens in full screen rather than a window; checking the properties used to allow you to change that but not these days it seems.
I'll have a look at the config file and see what I can find.

Cheers

Chris, did you full screen Stellarium and then "Save Configuration"?
I did that, closed Stellarium, rotated the display to portrait, and reopened Stellarium. It came up in full screen portrait.
I then closed Stellarium, rotated back to landscape, and reopened Stellarium. It came up in full screen landscape.
In case it makes a difference my lappie has NVidia GeForce GTX 560M graphics, driver version 8.17.12.9573
