Stellarium has been freezing on me, especially when playing with the time function. I end up having to do ctrl-alt-del to get to task manager to terminate the program. I am running version 0.11.3 on Windoze 7 32 bit version on an i7 desktop with Gforce 470 amp video card.
Anyone else have this problem?

I get hangs with 0.11.3 but on Win7Pro 64 bit and GTX560M video. It isn't just with time functions. If I leave it running for a while it hangs all by itself. Clicking the close button (ie not in full screen) a few times Windows eventually says it is not responding and closes it.

I see. Sounds like the program is unstable. Hopefully future updates will improve the situation.

Yep me to,
Windows 7 pro i5 dual core M460 @ 2.5gig, 64 bit 6 gig ram
ATI Radeon HD 4670 Video card
Early version worked fine and I was using it to control my NEQ6 Pro mount but then when I updated to V11.2 it started to lock up badly then V11.3 was launched and while it's not anywhere near as bad it still freezes.
I'm now using TheSky6. It's a shame because I liked the look of Stellarium TheSky is not as user friendly but it kills it (Stellarium) for functions.
maybe the program has to work through too much data because you guys downloaded too many additional stars or set the discovery level too low regarding magnitude?
the program has to compute every object's position anew every so often, I think. the more it has to compute, the more errors in memory allocation can occur.
if it does not free the allocated memory for a past computation it will eventually hang.
less stars = less allocation hangs.
also: full view will likely cause a hang sooner than non-full screen.
or for example, in the SolarSystem Editor, you can reset the included comet view and stuff by clicking the button in that window ("reset..").
ease the load.
just a thought. :)

Me too. Upgraded to 0.11.2 on my laptop and the freezing started. Pretty much unusable in time stretched mode. Had to revert to the previous version. 0.11.3 also hangs.

The most common cause of freezing in Stellarium is insufficient memory available.
The number of star catalogues has little to do with memory usage because of the mmat loading method.
When stellarium is running check the frame rate. A good display does not require any more than 20 fps and when the display is static (no need of regular updating) a fps of 3 or 4 is quite sufficient.
You can conserve CPU activity by editing the config.ini file to set the
maximum_fps =20
and the
minimum_fps =4
