On my laptop. Admittedly it is six years old but it runs MaximDL, astroart, and eqmod without problems. It also runs Cartes du Ciel no worries but never handled Stellarium. It meets the minimum system requirements and passes the Software Bisque comparability test.

I cannot turn off the OpenGL because I can't open SkyX.

When trying to upgrade the video drivers from the manufacturer, no luck. Probably because of the age they no longer even provide legacy drivers. My thoughts is it is probably the video drivers.

I am a bit reluctant to get a new one as I only use this for my astro stuff but I need the SkyX for the new mount.

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Mark

Do you mean you can't run opengl? If its loads up just untick opengl box's in settings, i use starry night pro so i can't help alot. I have had issues with my nvidia 8200m and starry night and have found un-selecting opengl acceleration resolved the problem.

You might try this: install TheSkyX on a machine where it will run, go into Tools->Preferences->Advanced and turn OpenGL off, exit TheSkyX, then copy the entire Documents->Software Bisque->TheSkyX Professional Edition (or whichever edition you actually have) folder over from the working machine to the non-working machine to replace its folder. I'm sure you really only need to copy a single file over, not the whole folder, but off the top of my head I can't remember which one. Maybe AppSettings.ini?

Thanks guys
I think I have found another solution. Start windows in safe mode, open the SkyX, turn off the OpenGL, shutdown and start normally.

SkyX Pro now runs. It does come up with a window saying how it is accommodating my piece of junk laptop. Haven't looked at that in detail yet.

It is old but I've got better things to spend $400 on over the coming months. Only need it to run the mount with pec and tpoint, the focuser, and the cameras and image capture in Maxim.

We'll see how it goes.

Yup, my suggestion was a stupid one. I forgot all about Safe Mode. That was a much better solution.
