Celestron 8-24mm Zoom eye piece

Thinking of buying one of these eye pieces of ebay for $150
just thought I would check here first to see if anybody has one and if its worth it ?

Be using it with a 10" dob.. same seller also has a 2x barlow for $50

I've only got the standard 25m and 10mm that came with the scope for now.

Slightly overpriced IMO, the baader zoom is better value though about $90 more, if you havnt had a zoom try the Seben- much cheaper

I have a celestron 6.5-18 now, it's terrific at low powers the sharpness is terrific

i have a baader zoom and they are a nice eyepiece..nice click into each position great optics nice and clean and crisp!!!!!!!!!!!well worth the little extra in money...

is the skywatcher zoom eye piece 8-24 any good ?

The Skywatcher and Celestron 8-24 zoom eyepieces are decent - I wouldn't pay more than $100 for one and I don't recall how they fare at f/5, probably good enough though. The field of view is narrow.

You might want to consider putting the money towards the Explore Scientific 82 degree eyepieces instead, many of which are on sale for $100 each.

You'll find it useful for it's convenience even if you do get other eyepieces later on.

I've only had a short time with the Baader but it's a lovely eyepiece. I own the Seben and with an equally cheap telescope I think it's the bees knees.

Never used a zoom... don't think I ever will. I do have the 5 and 8mm Hyperions and find them inferior to the ES 6.7 82 deg I also have. Tony's suggestion is a good one.

I mentioned the Hyperions as Badder make a zoom too, just to make my previous post a bit clearer.
