Hi All,

my daughter has come home with a free MacBook from school (they've all been given one - can you believe that!)

I'm totally UNfamiliar with Mac OSX, so am having great difficult connecting it to the internet via our little wireless router.

I have the following information at the ready.

I know our wireless network name.
I also know that I've used WEP 128bit Ascii security, and I have the encryption key ready and available.

And that's about it!

Anyway, I really want to get it connected but my Network Preferences screen keeps telling me that either .......

"no IP address is allocated, so it can't connect to the internet",

or....

"the airport has an allocated IP of 169.254.35.111 and can't connect to the internet".

Can anyone offer any really simple instructions as to how I might fix this please?

Any and all assistance is welcome and greatly appreciated. :)

Try this ...

Go to the network icon (looks like a sector with 3 arcs) on the bar top right.
Make sure WIFI is on.
Select your network.
Should show WEP incryption.
Put in the network password.
The three grey bars should then go black indicating you have joined the network.

Regards, Rob

Was that me you were referring to in the title Paul?

If so, sorry, I was fixing my son's XBOX NAT problem ;)

If not, then as you were, it seems Rob and Warren have you sorted anyway....:)

Nice service guys, from start to finish, 21 minutes.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Paul

Glad to see you have it figured with the guys help. Sometimes it's overly simple and that's strange to new users in itself.

Lucky school kids!!!

Hi Chris and Chris,

thanks for taking the time to reply even though it was fixed already.

Chris Screwdriverone, it was actually Omaroo I was thinking of in the title, as in the back of my mind I knew he was a fan/guru of everything Apple from yonks ago. Sorry - I should have been more clear, but thanks for posting anyway.

And hey yes indeed - lucky kids. My how things have changed.

Thanks to all who replied
