Just wondering if anyone could provide some tips on how to set up a binoviewer. This may sound like an idiotic question (probably is), but I don't really have much experience in astronomy et. al. I have a Saxon binoviewer and two Meade 16mm Plossl. I also have a Meade ETX125EC. After putting the Plossls into the binoviewer, I place the binoviewer in the telescope eyepiece holder and screw it in. This is where I run into problems. The binoviewer seems to have a " + o - " part on each eyepiece. After focusing the binoviewers (which incidentally took time) I see two stars instead of one! I then turn the right eyepiece "+ o -" if I recall to the right (I can't remember) and the two stars then align into one. I didn't turn the left eyepiece and am unsure if I have to. I really didn't see this 3D effect but then again I was only looking at a star, and maybe that is more for planets. Anyway, if anyone could inform me if what i am doing is correct, better way of doing it etc, it would be appreciated.

There's an article just for you!

It's in the Articles (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/?projects) section of the site - or directly, here:

How to Adjust a Binoviewer (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/index.php?id=63,267,0,0,1,0)

You should not need to fiddle much at all to get the images to merge, if the prisms are properly collimated. But if they are not, then it will be difficult to do. The only issue there might be is having the eyepieces centred in their holders (which I believe is what the article Mike linked talks about mostly).

The "- o +" are meant for individual focus only, although they will also rotate the eyepiece and holder.
