Hi all,
I've been using Telstra prepaid broadband with my ASUS netbook (Win7 starter) for nearly year now and today I started getting the message
Network Error Windows has detected an IP adress conflict another computer on this network has the same IP address as this computer. I contacted Telstra and they say to ignore the message.

I see in network and sharing active network is set as home network and in change adapter settings there are 5 connections, 2 of these -3G Connection with ZTE mobile broadband and a Local Area Connection 2 ZTE wireless ethernet don't have a red X next to them. The other 3 Local Area Connection, wireless network connection and wireless network connection 2 do have red X next to them.

Is this something I should be concerned about, I haven't changed anything on the netbook?

Thanks
PeterM

Do you have your Wireless network secured is it possible that someone has hacked into you connection and is using your IP address on another computer possibly someone is leeching your connection. Have you found the connection slowing at all. Could you use the snipping tool to show a screenshot of the network window

Thanks for responding Warren.
That was my concern but Telstra say no. I only use the Telstra Next G USB stick with sim card and the wireless on the netbook is turned off. I have attached screenshots not sure if they are what you meant.
Thanks again

On the second screen you have a screenshot of you could click on show full map and see if anything shows up that shouldn't be there. If it is saying there is a IP conflict there has to be another computer on the network IMHO.

Warren,
I tried to open the full map and get - windows cannot create network map responses from other devices on the network are delayed or there is an incompatible router on the network.

Hi Geoff
Thanks for your input.
I try to but sometimes I have placed in one of the others, can that cause such an issue?

I rebooted again and the message has not re-appeared now for some time. Weird never seen it before and now can't get it back.

if put in the wrong hole (so to speak) - the dongle can reinstall itself again

so you can/will have two or more connections with the same details

its a possibility

If you can't get the error back it sounds suspicious to me that some is hacking in I hope I am wrong without being there to see it happening it is difficult to say. Do you have a local IT mate that can help. next time it happens I would use the problem setps recorder tool included in Win 7 and send the output to telstra
