Hi everyone,

just wanting to get some advice on guiding using K3CCD Tools for guiding.

I use K3CCD Tools with a SKYNYX2.0 and a short focus 80mm refractor which is mounted on my 12.5" f/ scope and a DSLR Canon 400D.

The issue I have with K3CCD Tools is:

1. I cannot get to Angle alignment tool to give me a reading - I generally try and set the camera lined up E-W and the manual says to then press the angle measurement tool and turn off the drive for the angle measurement to occur. I always get a zero angle which is suspicious to me.

2. The best accuracy I get on the correction graphs tell me guiding is good to 3.7" which sounds very high to me.

Overall, I don't seem to be able to get a high level of accuracy with this set up, and have played around with the various correction settings but to no avail.

Any advice from K3CCD tool users would be welcomed!

John K.

John I tried to use K3 for years as my guiding software. Overall its a fantastic piece of software but the guiding bit eventually beat me. I moved to pHD and haven't looked back.

I don't know whether it was because of the mounts I was using, the LX200 emulator interface, K3 or Operator incompetence or some other thing or combination of all the above.

One thing I would suggest with K3 though is to reduce your focal length of guider as much as possible and check to make sure your camera/telescope detail are correctly entered.

Sorry I can't be more help, its been a long time.

Is there any reason you can't us PhD?

G'day Paul,

The reason is that I don't believe that PHD supports the Lumenera SkyNyx 2.0 camera. That was the case last time I looked into it anyhow.
