I am planning to buy this eyepiece and was wondering if there is a *preferred* Barlow to go with it , and also if you have any recommendations of where to purchase the eyepiece, I am in Perth WA,
Thanks

Ray.

Hi Ray, I bought the 13mm Nagler a few weeks ago but went with a 2.5x Powermate (1.25") instead of the barlow. More expensive but worth it. From www.bhphotovideo.com. in the USA. I think Bintel had prices close to them but not close enough! ;) Fast delivery with UPS from B&H as well.

Thanks Dave, I will have a look at the Powermate, have you had a chance to use the 13mm yet ? I know the weather hasn't been too kind to us lately !!
I ordered a shroud for the telescope which was sent with UPS, that was on the 11th August......still waiting.. so in my case it was OOps

I have used it on the few rare nights we have had clear skies and it is impressive indeed. I think the FOV and sharpness right to the edges are the most noticeable difference. I am sure there are a dozen other things that my untrained eyes don't register at the moment as well.

I will have to admit to buying a 24mm Panoptic as well (just to break the bank ) and am finding that it gets the most use. I have meant to ask the question on this forum (and will) about the difference of say a 24mm EP 2 x barlowed as opposed to just a 12mm EP. If not much maybe a 24mm plus the barlow (or Powermate) will get you what you need for the moment but I do know the normal barlows are supposed to take some brightness off the image. Well I think I have read that hence the Powermate suggestion.

I can tell you using the Powermate with the 13mm only ends up with a mushy view I guess because of seeing conditions rather than any fault of the EPs.

Yes and I have a shroud coming via USPS which was last tracked in Chicago on the 17th! :mad2:

I am beginning to realise how this can get out of hand , when I took a look at the web site...I spotted another 13mm eyepiece..the TV Ethos !!;) Mmmm let me just check the bank account :)

The 13mm Nagler was the first 'premium' EP I ever bought.
Six years on and I've still got it.
There is NO scope in which it does not perform well out-of-the-box! :D
However I probably wouldn't barlow (or powermate) it in a scope longer than f8 (a bit dim) or slower than f5 (a bit mushy).
Could be my eyes tho'.
