Hi All,
This really interesting "hobby" has rapidly become a concerning addiction for our family! with a rapidly ever increasing collection of binos' and scopes etc
We now believe that we may be interested in another 2" eyepiece and perhaps you can assist our decision making. ... (we've also looked at the many and diverse discussions on the forums on the various EP's)
For our 12" Dobsonian GoTo scope we now have :
- 2" 38mm SWA, with Barlow that provides 19mm?
- 2" 30mm UWA, with Barlow that provides 15mm?
- 2" 26mm SWA, with Barlow that provides 13mm?
- 2" GSO? Barlow
We are interested in purchasing another higher power 2" Eyepiece for improved planetary observation?
We also noticed that there is an "Andrews" series of eyepieces which seem to offer higher power magnification, and which claims (on their website) to be suited to both 1.25" and 2" barrels? is this correct? as logically if an EP is suited for 2" and 1.25" barrels, then does that not restrict the FOV?
We already have a series of locally obtained and "scope supplied" base grade 1.25" Plossl EP's (32/25/20/15/10/7) which suit our smaller 130mm Skywatcher scope, however we believed that the FOV and consistency of viewing would be better with 2" EP's for the larger scope.
Questions?:
1. Should we consider a 2" SWA? EP in the 20mm range? Which with the Barlow would deliver approx 10mm; or alternately
2. Should we consider an 2" SWA 17mm which when Barlowed would deliver approx 8mm?
3. or some other size?
3. Also is there a quality difference between the Skywatcher? and similar series of standard "off the shelf" EP's that we are being offered locally and the Andrews EP's? or are they simply rebadged similar products, from the same or similar manufacturers?
