Just got my QHY8 CCD from a fellow IIS'er. Been having a look at software that I can use with the camera. Before I purchase a commercial package I just want to get started with the camera. I am going to use the software that came with it to start with (EZCAP). I will in time get Nebulosity to capture as this allows me to save on tiff format. however does anyone know of a free simple program to open and convert FITS that is simple and fast to use..

Fits liberator (http://www.spacetelescope.org/projects/fits_liberator/download_v30/) from NASA (free). Although Eddie Trimachi (http://astroshed.com/software.html) does a nifty convertor with some other features. Check out his FIT4win2 also, a very usefull app indeed.
Most ppl use fits liberator, its the industry standard, because it allows simple 2 click stretching/scaling in 32 bit before conversion to 16bit tiff for PS .... and its free (NASA useses it for Hubble pics).
