Up for sale is is an upgraded version of the Coronado PST. The original unit was sent back to Denkmeir in the US for the upgrade to a 60 mm objective. See the details here on their site: http://www.denkmeier.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.displ ay&category_ID=31

The unit comes with a battered 12 mm eyepiece that actually works well. It includes both a 5mm and 10mm blocking filter. It does not include any fancy case for storage.

The external condition of the unit is very good. The unit's visual performance is good but not as good as I was expecting. Hence I have ordered an 80mm Lunt and this scope is up for sale. One big advantage of this scope is that does provide a bigger image scale and brightness than the standard PST.

I prefer to sell the unit locally i.e. pick-up rather than posting because it gives someone an opportunity to look through the scope. That way there are no misgivings about what view you get for your money.

I am asking $750 for pickup in Sydney South West. If there is no interest locally I'll consider posting unit for those interested. If not sold by 23 May it will be withdrawn from sale.

I'll load up some pics of the unit in the next day or so.

Pm me if you are interested. Thanks.

Now added some pics.

Was the upgrade comparable to the customer reviews, especially as to resolution (detail)? Could you see more detail in the proms?

In your 1st image what is the brass(?) attachment? Looks like an aftermarket eyepiece holder for the PST.

Is your PST from the pre-Meade era?

It looks like the original tube is still in place with an extension on the end. Denkmeir's site says they replace the tube and give yours back. However, their picture of the upgrade looks like yours. So, did you get the original 40mm tube back, unattached?

Thanks Craig

Hi Craig

Naturally the customer reviews are from satisfied upgraders :). I believe the customer experience is directly proportional to the quality of the original PST sent for upgrade. If you start with a cracker, you get a cracker result with the upgrade. I have looked through many PSTs and mine was about the middle in terms of wavelength, surface contrast and flare. I have seen some that are way above standard specs i.e. low angstrom pass band and excellent contrast on surface.

What I do see is more scale per any given eyepiece because of the mag increase i.e. moving from 400mm to 600mm and of course brighter at any given mag. I am not convinced I see the resolution gain in the proms, but then again solar viewing is much more affected by daytime seeing and the increase in focal length also magnifies any poor seeing. So my expectations were not quite met and hence going to try a Lunt.

The second fitting is a second blocking filter. This is critical for any solar telescope. One gives you more clearance or field around the sun. One is the smaller original coronado blocking filter and the other is the upgrade.

The scope came as you see it from Denkmeir. Yes the scope is a pre-meade era scope.
