Hi,

Alot of times, im getting distorted images when stacking in registax as seen in the attach. with the stack graph, do i move the slider down to cut the higher waves?

thanks

arrgh i see, yes, drop it down so that those 5 peaks to the right are clipped, but not any others.

can you do a screen dump of your first registax screen after an alignment, so i can get a feel for the quality

thanks

the video is pretty messy, but hopefully with some serious wavelets we can extract something. the reference frame from the create reference is showing some bands

here are screen shots so far, all before optimising

not looking good, was this from last night as the seeing in NSW (ving) and down here (tassie) was the worst it has been for a long time!!

the image is moving in and out of focus and the shape is like jelly.

with the atmosphere so sloppy, imaging is almost a waste of time!

my pleassure,

naaargh there is nothing there to process out

so, you are doing nothing wrong with your processing, there is simply not enough detail to squeeze out due to the shocking seeing conditions. So the blob you are getting at stacking time is right.

whats your limit on your email account, i will send you some better "seeing" video. say 3/10 from this morning of jupiter.

basically, you want to be able to see detail 1/2 the time, not 1 every 10 frames or worse.

i rate your seeing conditions as 1/10!!!

ok just a thought, seeing is different to transparency.

transparency relates to clouds, smoke, mist, fog etc

even if you have a crystal clear sky ie great transparency, high level jetstreams will play havoc with the air in the atmosphere, and your "seeing" will be affected

will do, just watch your email on public forums, crawlers and the like will grab it and spammo!!

usually guys will write "ezystyles at hotmail dot com" or only show in priveta mail.

they are on their way

really? i thought seeing condition is based on cloud coverings. cool, how would i determine if the seeing condition is good and my eyes can see jupiter sharp?

if your 4mm shows detail that is razor sharp then the seeing is great! 8/10 or better

if your 9mm looks pretty good, but still you can't seem to get a similiar view from your 4mm then the seeing is ok say 5/10

if your 9mm is not looking great and the image wobbles within itself and the bands come in and out of focus, then the seeing is very poor sat 1/10 or 2/10.

i always check the twinkling of the stars. if they are twinkling like crazy even up hiugh above your head, then the atmosphere is really shifting around. if they are dead calm and only twinkle once a second then you know you are in for treat

i think the hole on the jetstream may be passing during the day as this is from last night at 6pm, but if the wind stays north westerly, then you may be in for some better seeing
