Hi All,

Some time ago,I bought a Tasco/Vixen 8V telescope.
This came with 2 Orthoscopic .965 eyepieces.
18mm. and 5mm.
They have the V in a circle logo,so I know they are early Vixen eyepieces,

I have just found an adapter,in amongst the parts I got with the 8V,which will screw directly onto the 1.25" adapter, and allow the use of these Eyepieces in the ED80.

I am stoked,I can now use any Eyepiece in the ED80 from 2",to .965"

I have just ordered a UO 7mm orthoscopic,from Daniel,at Frontier Optics,
so I will have a reasonable range of Magnifications,with the 3 ortho,s.

My Questions are.
1/ Are the .965 Vixens a decent eyepiece??,

2/ Has anyone else used these eyepieces in an ED80,with a .965 adapter,on top of a 1.25" adapter, and if so,were you happy with the results.

Thanks in Advance.
Regards.
John

Once you get the UO ortho, you can answer that yourself by comparing them. And please report your findings because I'm very interested. I love my UO HD orthos.

Steve,
I didn,t get the HD Ortho, just the standard one.I am hopeing they are almost as good as the HD,s.
Hasn,t been sent yet,Daniel was waiting on new stock.

Just had a let down, with the proper .965 adapter installed,I cant get enough IN travel to focus,so Iv,e had to use my old piece of 32mm Aluminium pipe I had Machined to fit. :mad2:

When you say "IN" maybe at least try them without the diagonal. Hard on the neck, but may give you an appreciation of how they are.

Hi,
Unfortunately the ED80,refuses to focus at all on ANY eyepiece, without the Diagonal in place.

I have got the .965 to work ok now.and they seem to work quite well,
although the 9mm GSO,I bought from Darren (DHUMPIE),works very well too,and with my untrained eye,the 9mm gso, seems almost as sharp,as the 18mm .965 Barlowed,at least I cant see much difference between them.

The Vixen ep's should be pretty good if not better than most of the stuff out there now. I have two old 0.965" Vixen ep's as well from my firstscope, a Celestron Cometron 40 (40mm f/20), a 25mm Celestron/Vixen Kellner and a 8mm Celestron/Vixen HM and both are incredible performers in that slow scope...

Hi Darren,
Thanks for the info on the Vixen Eyepieces.

I am pleased to hear they are decent eyepieces,I dont use the 18mm,that much, but use the 5mm for Planets.
