:work: Today we leveled the site for my observatory. Well almost level. I'll go out later when it is cooler with the spirit level and a flat edged spade to finish it off.
I can see it being a bit of a drawn out exercise though. Doing a bit here and there as funds are available.
Originally I wanted to have a raised floor, but that may only encourage snakes to nest underneath, so I think a slab is best. We already have some weatherproof carpet in the shed to cover the concrete.
I'll make an effort to post pics of each stage.
May I just say....
I'm Excited

Here is a very rough plan for the building. The walls to be made of besser bricks and a half watertank for the roof. I'll have to source some galvo c section for the tracks, and then buy the wheels to suit.
I don't know what to do about the front wall yet, so any suggestions are welcome.
The next job is to square the roof and reinforce it with timber. Once that is done I can get more accurate measurements for the rest of the structure. The whole thing revolves around the size of the roof.

Jeanette, from experience of a club member, who started with 'just a slab'. Use an elevated type floor. Even just an inch is enough. Carpet this. The concrete is very hard on the legs etc .... Cold 2. Put up with the 'snakes'.
Just the facts m'am. :D L.

Good luck with it Jeanette, if you do use concrete, make sure you use plastic under the slab to stop moisture rising through the floor.

I can get hold of some small pine pallets for next to nix. If I take add extra boards on them so there is no gaps they might do the job. Then lay the carpet over the top of the pallets.

Sounds good.. Jeanette. Much better than a solid floor. Need something on top of concrete. Use a good thick underlay as well :D L.

Sounds good jjjnettie,
I look forward to the day I can build my own observatory
I shall have to wait till I get my own "Bush Block" I would not make the effort living in the city.

Here's a panorama taken from the site.
A better view to the north west could be had if I built further down the drive way. But I don't want the observatory too close to the road, and I can have electricity being close to the house.
