Hi Guys, well I'm so frustrated with this bloody program I', about to throw the machine out the window, :mad2: hence one more try with the computer experts. :) :)

I have pasted the problem from my earlier post to bump it up a bit, if you can help it would be most appreciated so please read on

Well guys I have read your posts but am no wiser, could you pleas tell me in English of what to do, ya know open this click here, that sort of stuff. http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/../vbiis/images/smilies/helpsign3.gif

I have actually tried to remove Office Home and Student, but it wont let me do that either, totally buggered here. http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/../vbiis/images/smilies/shrugging.gif

It tells me... Error 1317 Setup Cannot create Folder

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data
verify that the path exists in your system and that you have sufficient permission to update it.

The point here is I didn't want to update in the first place, it just started to be a pain in the arse when i next tried to open Microsoft Word. http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/../vbiis/images/smilies/sad_eyes.gif

So if anyone can help I would really appreciate it. :)

I just cant open and/or remove the program as it suggests that i'm not the owner of the software and/or the computer.

Leon

Hi Leon

As I said earlier it would be easier for someone with access to the PC to solve the problem. But maybe you can follow these instructions in this link and see if it solves the problem

Do you have XP Leon or have you moved to Win7:question:

Leon....It's a long shot ... does the programme show up in your " Add and Remove " programme listing.....??
You say that u can't remove it ...I'm assuming that it's not showing up there.
If it isn't ... I suspect the " uninstaller " for that programme is " corrupted " ( hence u can't remove it )

Try just re-installing the programme .... when u do ...u may get a " prompt " asking.. " do u want to repair or remove " this programme.

Make a choice of what you want to do, and go from there.

It may just go ahead and do a fresh install for you and " overwrite " the previous installation.

If you have the original discs ... when u do a re-install ... it should recognize you as the ADMINISTRATOR.... otherwise the Discs wouldn't run.....Windows does this by default. ( anyone can do an install )

Maybe u have already tried this .. I don't know..!

Give it a shot Mate, if you haven't ..

Warren, yes mate i do have XP.

Colin, the program dose show up in the add and remove listings, tried to remove it from there as well but it wont.

Then I thought i might install again, but that dose not work either, it first wants to gather information, then after a bit it stops and then wants to configure the process, and then it is back to what you see

Error 1317 Setup Cannot create Folder

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data
verify that the path exists in your system and that you have sufficient permission to update it.

Buggered if I know what to do now, however thank you for your efforts

Leon ... Can you " Roll Back " your XP " to a previous time.
You may lose some current data ... back anything up before hand.
Go to '" System Restore " and choose a date before all this " crap " started.

That's about all I can suggest...other than a complete fresh install of Windows and then install your OFFICE programme so it is fresh to...plus everything else you need on your laptop.

Pain in the neck...the last suggestion ... doing it all again...

HI Leon

Try this you could do a system restore to a date before the problem started I have a attached a PDF with instructions for this.

Thanks guys, Warren I have done a restore point earlier, and have just done one now, this has not fixed anything.

Thanks guys I will keep trying, or just take it to my mate who has a computer business.

I think that that is your only option now Leon someone needs to physically look at it and troubleshoot:thumbsup:

Leon...
Just an idea....
Do you actually have this folder as per the warning?

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data

I had a similar problem once & I had to delete the respective folder.
The program then re-installed correctly. & I was able to un-install it afterwards.
May work.

Hi Leon,
I have seen something similar to this :

"Then I thought i might install again, but that dose not work either, it first wants to gather information, then after a bit it stops and then wants to configure the process,"

At work, when office wanted to try and install a language pack or something like that, it showed a similar response and would not continue.
This might not help you directly, but for those of you with more knowledge it might. I think it had to do with the fact that the office program is installed on a server and wont allow changes because of permissions to the client(your computer).
Is your computer networked with other computers in your home?. Maybe something has gone haywire and the puter thinks its a client not the admin computer...
Sorry probably not much help, but maybe it might trigger a thought in an IT gooroo;)
Cheers

Bart, you are on the money mate it dose exactly as you have described, than tells me it needs permission to go on.

Bart, I am not networked at all and have never been so i expect that that is not the issue.

It is probably an easy fix, but i really don't know what to do, i was hoping some computer experts here could help.

Ah well it is only Microsoft Office, I can live with out it i suppose.

Many thanks for your response.

If you give up on it and want to try a free alternative you could download and install Open Office and use that instead

Warren Thanks mate, I did not know about that one and will give it a go, I only need somewhere to do some letter writing at times, never use the other applications of Office anyway.

Thanks Warren and of coarse the other members for your support and help.

Warren just downloaded Open Office, it looks just what i was needing for the occasional letter and such.

Thanks for the tip, I can now just get rid of the Desktop Shortcuts for Microsoft Office and go from there.

No problems mate it is a good alternative and it does just about anything that MS Office will do just remember if you are making a document that others will use to save it as a Office 2003 file. As described in this link:thumbsup:

Leon it's a bit unclear as to whether or not you managed to deinstalling office, Microsoft has an office cleanup tool that may help I'm getting rid of the remains of the failed install. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Sounds like you are created as a 'user' without admin privileges. You need to login as an administrator to remove it. Try 'administrator' in the user login box then just use the return key for the password. Hopefully it has not been set to some unknown word/phrase/code lost in the annals of time.
