hi. i was wondering if anyone has used the "Siebert" branded eyepieces. i have heard and read a bit about them and they have been compared to televue eyepieces for sharpness. can anyone comment on that?

I had one of their 'Starsplitter' eyepieces for a while and found its build quality and performance were below that of cheap Chinese eyepieces.
I can't say that's true for all their products, but I wouldn't consider them again.
Some Americans love them, but Americans are VERY parochial !

Cheers,
Jason.

Hi Les,
I don't have any experience with the Starsplitter E/P's, but I have used the "Ultra" series (Siebert's top of line e/p's) + the Telecentric Barlow (again the top of line) for nearly 5 years. Great edge to edge sharpness and a great flat field and all this in 12" F5 Lightbridge.
Though they are plain in appearance, they are at their best where it counts.....Observing!!
Would I buy them again, if I had my time over?......YEP!!:):)
My two cents....:)

I have a 28mm 2" eyepiece suitable for F5 and I never use it (Still have it). It took ages to get it made and when it arrive I couldn't get it to focus. The lense had to be moved out of its collar to acheive focus, when I notified the company I never heard from them again. That was 1 year ago.

I bought Baaders instead.

I've dealt with Harry Siebert quite a few times and always found him very helpful.

I have 3 lenses from Harry Siebert - 2" 28mm, 18mm & 7mm for my VC200L + 12" F5 Dob for the times that I go only visual and they always worked pretty well - also the PowerMag Wheel is a convenience (Combo Barlows made to match the 3 lenses) and they are pretty good and sharp

The field-stop seems a bit larger than others

Good value for money

hello team, i have two of this brand and they are not worth the money, buy once ,buy good stuff ,start with televue they have the range to suit most pockets and there are plenty available in top used condition for siginificamntly less than new...or simply buy new...all the others are poor clones. seibert are bottom draw stuff i say this on the basis of my personal experience withthem in large newtonians large maks, sct 's and a variety of refractors....save the money and buy good stuff the John West test is the only test.

I would be careful to offer a blanket statement like that. Maybe some of Seiberts stuff is very good. I have a Seibert Multimag OCS for use on a Binoviewer, and it works extremely well. It's miles in front of some other OCS/OCA's I've tried.

I think from this post it is safe to say there is mixed responses, judgement on purchasing is still up to people but I would take the percentage of positive to negative responses as part of your decision.

Unfortunately there is very little independent reviews done on these products which at the time of purchasing I did not think to check. I think when they are working the eyepieces are good but when they are not, you get no support.
