What tools/websites to people use to suss out the likelihood of decent observing weather over the next 7 days? I'm really missing astroforecast.

7Timer is awesome (and Skippy), but what I loved about AF was how easily you could tell at a glance if you had a hope (which is of course unlikely in Eastern Aust for next 6 months anyway, but I'm an eternal optimist! :D)

Weatherzone is the place I go, gives me a pretty good picture of what I can expect for the next 7 days.

Thanks Chris - I guess that's good as a general guide. Would be nice to have a cloud cover indication too. Am I being too fussy?

Not at all!

7Timer provides the cloud cover, but I'm not sure about it's accuracy for my site.
7Timer currently says overcast at my place, but I've been out observing this evening, plenty of stars but awful seeing! :(

Cheers

I've noticed over last 6 months or so of La Nina that its getting tough for the models to predict clouds when there is a moist onshore airflow pushed in by a Tasman High. Frustrating too when there is a suggestion of clear skies a few days out how that can turn around.

Life was simpler during the drought when you could almost set your watch by the odd bank of high cloud that might sail smoothly across the country from W to East....:)

Another vote for weatherzone.com.au from me, although I always cross check it with the BOM site and work out the average. Sometimes one will be right and sometimes the other. The thing I like about WZ is how easy it is to find the info, and to look up long range foresasts for anywhere in Australia.

Isn't it as simple as chanting:
East Coast - cloud/rain/storm/flood
West Coast - cloud/scattered showers

Yeah, I should have figured out by now the likelihood of clouds is directly related to how much spare time I'm likely to have on the night....:D

This is very good for a quick 7 day look ahead - new 7Timer function:

I use the yr no (Norwegian weather service) It gives detailed 3 day with moving cloud map, a 10 day forecast, next week end and a three day hour by hour forecast. I find it brilliant! try it! I've set it up for Brisbane.
