I captured this 2 nights ago, had huge problems with windy conditions. This is first image I have had a go at since I have been crook.
Modded and cooled 40D from Central DS, 6 x 600 at 800iso using TOA130F reducer and LPS filter. Darks, flats and bias applied some PS mucking around, and uncropped.
Sorry slightly off centre, but rough enough for a 1st up in 8 months

Have to agree Pete! The lay off hasn't hurt your capture and processing abilities at all. Lovely!

Thanks all. But I really have had trouble getting rid of the cobwebs. My cooling fan on the 40D died as well, so no more imaging until that is replaced. It isnt a connection problem, there is a strong smell of burning when I smell the fan. I have had it to bits and there is no doubt the motor has snuffed it.

Good one Mate. Good to see you getting back out under the sky. You may think you are rusty but if this is rusty god help us when you get back up to speed.
Hope you get your problems fixed quickly. Good luck with it and may this year be a lot better for you and Hannah.

Thanks Doug, you were right about the cooling, it is still working, but needs the fan running, so with any luck that is the only damage.

Any chance of getting bits from over here to fix it?
That's a wonderful Rosette Peter. Plenty of detail, but still nice and soft. Not an easy one to get such a great image either

Andrew, nothing here at all, did a google search for the fan part number, could only find it in the USA. Managed to order 2 at $6.00 each, and $33 for freight, what a ripoff their postal system is.

Just got an email from Central DS, talk about great service, they are sending a replacement fan free of charge. This camera is well over its warranty period. Even comes with instructions on how to change it. Now I am stuck with the ones I have ordered from USA. Hopefully that can be cancelled when they open their emails on Monday, I have advised them of the situation. One can only hope, but no big deal if they wont, I will have spare fans..:D

Great shot and its one Ive always wanted to image myself but I get distracted by M42. So last night I had a go.
Boy its really, really faint and I will have to capture a lot more data before I can do anything with what I have. With the right equipment putting in the light it may be easier but Im really facing a challenge which I like.
So when the clouds anain go Ill give it some more data to chew on.
But as I said - great shot with nice colour and detail.

Hi Peter,
this turned out very nicely indeed!
Good colour balance and stars look pretty tight from what I can gather from this smallish image.
Yes the weather has been pretty ordinary over here on the West coast as well, but really, summer is never a really good time for imaging what with the blustery sea breezes (generally here it blows from Oct- Feb) and dust and now throw in La Nina.. and it's really ordinary.
So it's good to see some clearish skys.
Good stuff.

A very nice Rosette.
You never really lose the knack once gained even if rusty initially. Its like riding a bike - erhh a complicated bike!

Nicely done.
Sorry to hear it's not just the weather that's been hampering your imaging time...

Good to see, Peter. Both the image.... and you out there pushing your blood pressure up trying to get everything working!
I tried to observe it all but too big for the scope FOV and a bit too faint for the binoculars I was using. I must keep trying.

Thanks Jen and Erick, I managed to cook the fan motor and Central DS have already delivered a new one FOC, amazing service, so now the 40D is back up and running again.:D
