well a strange thing is happening around the coastal area of the hunter - its cloudy again after a perfectly clear morning. i wish you well, but it looks like a southerly pushing up the coast

Well, with ponders new mount due to arrive on the 29th, I'm getting in while the getting is good. We've buckley's chance of clear weather once that arrives.
My mount is already set up, just need to add a scope, power and cameras.
The transparency is pretty good, I can see individual trees on Mt Archer in the distance. Here's hoping the seeing is just as good. Shame about the moon though, but I won't let that slow me down too much. So I have to take shorter subs....I can live with that.
Did I mention? I'm excited!!!

It's windy as here. And tomorrow looks windier (is that even a word?)

We know what you mean Troy. :P
I'm fortunate that my back yard is surrounded by windbreaks on 3 sides. ( also known as houses) Tomorrow night though, well, it's only short subs we'll be taking of the moon, so I'm sure it won't matter in the least.:)

Yes,
It is, and thus a winding road in this weather can be both windier and windier.
If that sounds too windy, last week I cut a tree down, and then I cut it up.

Surprise, surprise, It's cloudy in Vic and bugger me it's snowing on the hills here. Maybe a white Christmas this year. If nothing else it will be wet, very wet with 5" of rain predicted between Christmas and New Year. Floods again. Thats 4 since September the first.

Its still looking nice and clear so hopefully i will get out for a play tonight. Probably binoculars only cause i have to be up at crack of dawn for work. How typical is it that i had four days off and it rained all the time then go back to work today to sit in the office and look out at beautiful weather.
I think they are predicting increasing cloud tomorrow so i will get out there while the getting is good.

I can not believe it, actually yas I can, I am out as I am sure all of South East Qld is tonight (Monday) and I am trying to shoot the Rosette Nebula and everywhere is clear except a stream of clouds that is continually channeling through my image.

What a beautiful night!! :D
My son was very excited about the clear skies when I got home from work so I set up the scope. I'd only just collimated it and was astounded at how such a small amount of adjustment can have such an amazing effect. For the first time ever the band(s) on Jupiter were clearly visible. As we used to say when I was a teenager, it was deadset grouse!
As well as the scope I also set up the guide scope and did some imaging to FINALLY try out my MPCC and UHC-S filter. The Orion Nebula was the target and I hope to process the pictures in the next couple of days when the rain returns to SEQ.
Anyway, it was just a gorgeous night except for one thing... those darn midges. But hey, it was worth the constant bitting (yes, I had insect repellant on!) just to be out in the dark - just me, my thoughts and the silence of my backyard that was only broken by my timer that beeped every 2, 3 or 5 minutes!!
Cheers,
Mario

It was a mite bit cool last night. It got down to around 10 degrees last night. Could well be a record for here.
The mozzies though were something shocking, biting me through my clothes. It's topping todays shopping list!
I'll be posting moonage later this morning.
Well done all, glad you saw some Moon, planets etc.
Hows it looking for tonight???
Observing without mozzies/midges ..... what a dream that would be!!

I'm holding my breath for the moonrise eclipse tonight too. The sun is actually out and there are no clouds in the sky. I'd quite forgotten what the sun looked like.
I've had the doona on the last 2 nights - makes a change from a sheet and the ceiling fan!

I don't like our chances of that Ron.
I'll be more than happy if it's clear this evening so we can enjoy our Solstice gift.

That might explain why my stars weren't that sharp in the images despite the fact that I'd pretty well nailed the focus...

What time does the moon actually rise for us, this site (http://www.thelunartimes.com/Australia/Point_Danger,_Australia_.aspx) says 18:54 for Point danger but I suspect it is not taking in DST?

I went out for a few hours last night. The moon was big and bright but still had a terminator edge so i popped in some eyepieces to test and managed to use my 6mm TMB barlowed (400x) and was still quite achievable even though the air was a bit turbulent.
The orion neb although not as big as usual still had plenty of colour as did the tarantula. I was able to see a few other fuzzies around the LMC although i couldn't see the LMC at all! Couldn't spot much else as Jupitor was too low in the trees.
It was nice to just be able to get the scope out.
cheers

Mario, Jupiter was very mushy, I must admit it was about 45deg above the horizon but it could have been better:thumbsup:
