Replacing manufacturer-supplied eyepiece caps with something that is, in my opinion, much more sensible! Others may well say - "How could you!" :scared2:

But, in particular, those 2" Televue caps were chewing up my pluck foam.

I'm yet to try these out in the field, but I'm hopeful they will be a delight to use. If I walk away from the scope, I usually leave the eyepiece in and want to cap it - and I want a cap that is easy to put on and remove. I think these will do the job.

I can highly recommend Gavin Warnes of http://www.eyepiececaps.net/servlet/StoreFront I had a problem with the my shipment and he immediately fixed the problem at his own expense, no questions asked! I'll have samples to give away at the next Snake Valley Starcamp, for those interested.

I've been buying eyecaps from Gavin for several years - his business has good service, good prices and great products. The caps and plugs come in a range of sizes and types that are oh-so-useful for eyepieces, scopes, diagonals, etc., and even some binoculars, and the bright colours make them loss-resistant, especially when it's dark.

Good call Erick. Very sensible.
What I want is one of those little thingys that's used to hold lens caps on. Its a piece of nylon string with a loop at one end and a disc of self adhesive plastic at the other. You loop the cord around whatever and stick the disc to the EP cap. Voila! no more scrabbling in the dirt. I haven't seen one in years.
Also: Why don't people who make those EP trays that go on your mount, ever make the holes large enough to fit the EP in with a cap on the bottom? Most annoying.

That's called a 'keeper' - good camera stores should have them, or there's always eBay:

I've been using them for 4 years. They're great and impossible to lose, especially in the dark!!:lol:
