My family has a block of land down in Gippsland in Victoria and after about six months of waiting for it to dry we have finally had a shed put up for us to stay in while we tend the block and build a house. My step-dad and I went down four days ago to prepare for the arival of two 5000 gallon tanks (22,700L). We had to build bases for them and fill the bases with packing sand, but that was the easy part. The hard part was getting the 400-500kg tanks up onto the bases :help: . In the end we decieded to test the old egyption method of rollers, which made it easier but it was still very hard, given that there was only the two of us to do it. But now, after 4 days of work we have both bases built and the tanks in place, yay. Now I will sleep for the next four days to recover  .

Yeah, the view is amazing (It's the main reason that made us buy the block, and it helped us overlook the horrible 16 acres of pine trees :( ). That shot was on a cloudy day but on a good day you can see right across to Wilsons Promentary (uhhh....spelling....meh, might be right. Don't know how I did well(ish) in year 12 english when I can't spell). Unfortunatly there will most likely not be an observertory. I have never once seen an entirely clear sky down there :(, I don't know why. Anyway, I am a member of the Astronomical Society of Victoria so I can use thier dark sky site whenever I want :).

So when is the scope moving in and the roof coming off that shed? :poke:

Biggest problem in Gippsland is the pollution from the power plants burning coal (and powering my home, ... I should really switch to green-power). There is always a greyish brown haze hanging over the horizon.

Steve wrote ....or you could cut the top off one of those tanks and fit some rollers and a hatch....:confuse3:

I'll suggest these ideas to Mum, but I don't think she'll be to thrilled.

I like Phil,s Idea too,but also agree with you, your Mum may not be too impressed,
Just tell her it will let in more water to the tank, when it rains.
Regards.
John
