Just received an email from PayPal indicating that a transaction was made from my account for US$9.00 a reoccuring transaction. This transaction was unauthorised by me. Check your Paypal acct just in case. Have raised a dispute.

Have you made sure that it was actually from PayPal - it sounds like it could be a phishing scam.....

No I logged onto my paypal account to be sure. Not from the link in the email.

was there any indication in your account that a recurring debit was active?

Yes it is active and the account showed that this payment was to be paid again on the 9th Nov with this payment reoccurring on a regular basis.
I have just cancelled the customer profile so no more reoccurring payments can/will be made.

yep thats dodgy....

what does PayPal do about stuff like that - I mean it should be pretty easy to trace where the money has gone....?

Made a complaint to PayPal last night....tonight received an email indicating that they have found in my favour and will refund US$9.00 to my account.
That was quick.

They are very good like that. A workmate had several thousand taken from his and they shut down the account and traced the money before he even knew about it. Got it all back.

I logged on one day to find my account frozen and a message to contact them. They said they had detected irregularities with my account (I understood - "hacked") and I went through the process to revalidate myself and set a new password. When I finally got in and checked carefully, all was as it should be - BUT they would not tell me what was wrong. Obviously I wanted to know if something I did (or someone I had dealt with) led to the problem. No - confidentiality rules, they said.

No problems since.

Yeah these privacy laws are really driving me nuts. Thieves are protected by them and they know it. Last year someone used my CC details at Sydney Airport to fly to NZ. Took me 2 months to contest the charges, prove that it wasn't me who flew and try sorting it out bouncing between Qantas and StGeorge security services, both sides saying "we can't disclose this information to you" when I asked questions about the names of the persons who did the booking to pass the info to the police. And I'm like "hey!? I'm the one who got robbed here!..." When the cops got involved it moved forward really quick though...

Someone used my paypal acct to subscribe to some torrent site. I don't use torrent sites at all. Although I did check them out after the invoice arrived.
