Plenty of people will submit a photo I hope. ;)
I hope to see a water fall or two. I love them :)

I got heaps of water fall shots from the blue mountains last week! Plus some from Victoria in October!

But i've got some other ideas too, if I can pull them off.

Thanks :)

Looks very big! I have seen a few water falls but no big ones.
I have never been OS so I have just seen them on the net or in books. :)

Thanks Mike, just in case anyone doesn't recognise it - part of Niagara Falls.

Ive got a fair number of waterfall pics and imagined there would be a few entered so thought Id go for something different.
Ive had two in mind, but just decided which one, taken on the same trip one of my personal alltime faves. Hard to trim down to 150kb and not feel dissappointed.

Interesting topic, glad you made the choice Dave

Great shot Chris, lovely colours. Is it some minerals in the water causing that colour? Just beautiful.

Nice shot Paul, lovely reflections.

John, last time you submitted a B1/B2 pic and it got a lot of votes I got the feeling you wished you hadn't entered it because it was a joke?

While I don't feel strongly either way, the idea of the competition is to display your best photography - posting "joke" images sort of degrades it for me. But I'd like to hear what others think.

My understanding :-

The lake is formed from glacial melt so it contains finely ground up rock called glacial flour suspended in the water.
This strengthens the faint blue colouring that is inherent in any body of water by increasing the scattering of this colouring back to the surface, some of the light is also shifted towards the green, hence the turquiose colour.

Great shots so far.
Like yours 33south very nice indeed. Paul I love the colour in yours.
I live in the part of Victoria where there's lots of water. But I thought taking a pik of Port Phillip bay was a bit been there done that :confuse3:
But there some nice spots around the bay :)
Who knows and I look foward to seeing more shots.
Not sure about yours Asi, :P my kids liked it :)

Very nice, Paul. (RR). Great scene choice & you timed it for the best colours.
Also very nice pic 33south. :D L.

yes Paul's and 33's pictures are very very good, I like them both. Paul's is a warm rich image with thought provoking scenery to think about the image and what it means. 33South's is just stunningly beautiful, airy and icey.

Thanks for your opinion Mike....I was wondering what you thought of my 'antics' at times.

Rather than degrade the competition (which is the last thing I wanted) feel free to delete it. (balls in you court...I don't mind):)

I would just call it "pop" art mike, Asimov has developed the topic very well and even captures the Aussie feel! They are artistic shots. I like them

I love the B1/B2 pics in the general chat forum, I think they're great work. But in my opinion (and so far, it seems to be just my opinion), they don't belong in the photography challenge and potentially take votes away from people who are taking the photography part of the challenge seriously.

Yes I know there's no prizes and it's all in good fun (a break from astro stuff), so that's why I don't feel too strongly about it.

I'm happy to leave it until there are other objections apart from my own (feel free to PM me).

I agree with h0ughy Mike, Asi's shots, despite the humourous content, have been carefully set up, composed and presented in a professional manner. IMHO no different to placing a pogo stick up a tree and shooting it, or bouncing a toy around as I did in the last challenge. The real challenge for Asi would be to tell the story without the text.

Great images :) Paul that colour in the water is fantastic , great capture .33South what awesome scenary in a great image , wonder if a landslide caused the break in the forest on the left hand side of the photo

Even though it's a 'humorous' photo, I took it seriously from the onset. 6-7 hours work for me from conception to posting it. The photos I treated the same as any other I take: noise reduction/sharpening/etc. the same as I would a picture of Saturn or a sunset. It's mainly directed at the kid in us all obviously.

I won a few small 'film' making awards in high school (horror & sci-fi mix)....but not in the usual fashion, they were presented the way as this double B shot above, like a comic strip but using photos. No computers back then, so it was intensive work with film/props. As houghy says...it's art using still shots from a camera.

Anyway, good to hear some opinions on this as I wasn't sure if I was being looked upon as a nutcase/non-serious amateur astronomer or someone just trying to keep the forum entertained with a few crazy photos. Everyones entitled to their opinion, & the minute I find out these kind of shots are not wanted in this forum I'll stop. The more opinions I get the better. Be honest!

Be thankful I don't post bob & B1 horror-sci-fi's!!....because I have them on my computer just ready to be unleashed on an unsuspecting forum!! (don't worry Mike I'll never post 'em in your forum mate.;)

Dave47tuc, as you say the 5500 (and you) have done a nice job on the colours through the water, I also like the delicate starlike highlights in the foreground.

As a passing comment I noticed the date/timestamp was 2006:01:10

Oops I have never changed the time settings on the camera. :help:
I was supposed to rename it also. :confuse2:
Thanks for your comments. I'm still learning to use the camera, and having a lot of fun with it. ;)
I took about 200 shots this morning down at fossil beach(name of local beach)
My wife picked out the one I posted. There about 10 really nice ones. :)

Well this is going to be a tough month, loads of quality entries so far.

For my entry I was going to submit one of my many waterfall shots from the blue mountains or somersby falls, but decided to go for something a bit different.

I know this ain't no website feedback forum, but i'm lazy, so: Could we please have a link to the corresponding Comments thread at the beginning of every Entries thread? and maybe even vice versa?

Brave Sir Robin, was it you who pulled a similar stunt a few months ago? Nice er uhm photo! Did you take it?

robin
19-01-2006, 11:20 PM
Steve, I've been shooting a continuing portfolio for this young hairdresser for some time now. This series features her in swimsuits in water.Yes, I took that last photo & this one.Its how i make my bread & butter.
Not sure on your '...pulled a similar stunt a few months ago' question. What do you mean by similar stunt?

janoskiss
20-01-2006, 12:01 AM
I mean the "stunt" being taking a picture of an attractive young lady in a somewhat provocative position, and entering it in the monthly photo challenge where the challenge subject matter is something else entirely. Not that I disapprove. ;)

Does the young lady know that she's being drooled over by up to about 600 amateur astronomy nerds and getting a few  by their spouses? :poke:

Nice shot woofie, I've dived with seals on two occasions at a small rocky island off Tassies North coast. It's like being in a bucket with heaps of excited puppies. They zoom staright for you, then pass gracefully just over your head at the last minute. Sitting on the bottom looking around it's not unusual to feel a small bite on the hand only to look round and see a seal with your hand in it's mouth, as gently as a puppy, then they take off, a tag game they play with each other and invite you to play. They really are wonderful gentle creatures in the water. Unfortunately two weeks after the last time I dived with seals at Barren Joey, a woman was taken by a white pointer.
