I recently bought an external hard disk docking station (see attached picture) that has a new USB3 connection. I put a USB3 card in my PC and did some speed tests by comparing the speed when the docking station was plugged into the USB2 and the USB3 ports on my PC. Here are the results:

Test data: 40 x 20,925 KB .fit files (typical imaging session?). Total 817Mb

Copy from PC to Hard Disk:
USB2 = 41 sec
USB3 = 20 sec

Copy files from Hard Disk to PC
USB2 = 26 sec
USB3 = 14 sec

As an aside, it took 4:03 to copy the same files across my wireless network (from the observatory to the house) and 1:16 to copy them across my CAT5 network from PC to PC.

A speedup of about 2x is consistent with my experience as well with usb3. I get about 80Mb/s.

Reflecting on these results, I should run a USB3 cable from the Observatory to the house :P

You know this I think as I think you were joking but the longer the distance with USB and I think you will have performance loss:question::D
