1 TB HD on sale at HN for $77

Ah-been dreading the day I had to buy a 1 TB HD,all these files ,more work:shrug:.Now I have a 50D ,it eats MBs,especially now I use RAW a bit more.

So I was looking at these super size HD for the last week or so,in yesterdays' paper they have 1 TB HD at 'Hardly Normal' store on sale for $77!,my sister-in-law picked up one at Kingaroy for me yesterday,but they are only on sale till tommorow.So I thought others here might need
one,at that price they seem very good value,they are 'Western Digital' brand.Apparently they are usually $159-thats the price on the box it came in.

These things have really gone down in price,I think Dennis told me 6 or 7 years ago this item would have cost $1000!

Only place to shop if you like the lowest prices (they are wholesalers that sell direct to the public). I've bought from them in both Adelaide and Perth. Best prices, good support, but their return policy is not that good (7 days, defect only).

I'm guessing Chris was referring to an external harddrive, i.e. one in a case with power supply and USB port.

They are external hard drives,not internal ones,My sister-in-law dropped it off last night.

Its a external power type,i.e have to plug it in to power socket.

But,they are only $77 for today only at Harvey Norman stores,I think they will be popular,when my sister-in -law bought it for me,she said two other people in check out lane had them.

Dick Smith store had 500 GB external hard drives advertised recently for $99,but I think they appealed to me more as they were USB port powered.I think I will get one,as very useful in the field when camping on astronomy and birding trips.

Isn't it interesting how much we desire these large drives. What do we really need to store on them.

I remember my first 10MB MFM drive. After battling with 360KB Floppies I put everything I thought I would ever need on the HDD and some extras and still had 5MB of space.

How times have changed.

FWIW officeworks usually have the western digital TB external drives for around $95. Ive bought 3 now. !!!!

FYI they are not a wholesaler, they are a low margin high volume retailer. Typically, like you mentioned, they don't have good return policies since their low margins means costs have to be kept to a bare minimum. Just look at their website!! :P

I know this because I work for a wholesaler who sells to them and others like them.

I buy alot of my gear from Fluidtek in Carlingford NSW. That seems to be the right price for 1 TB (assuming its a higher speed 7,200 rpm drive not the slower 5,400 rpm drives).

I have about 8 PCs in use on a gigabit LAN, so from now on I think whenever storage is low I'll buy 2-4 TB dual gigabit NAS that can double as media servers for my X-box and Playstation 3 units.
