Peter although pretty heavy it is very stable on the road, especially with the weight over the rear axle of the towing vehicle.

Empty it weighs 4.1tonn, so being loaded it probably will be a 1000 plus K's over that.

With the CVM (combined vehicle mass) we are limited to 8.6tonn.

Heavy indeed, but with much research we have chosen the appropriate vehicle to do the job.

So how many liters per kilometer do you get pulling that home? :eyepop:

Congratulations Leon, that's a serious house you have there. Enjoy your travels.

Good question my friend, I personally have no idea as yet, but i expect it will be costly.

It has already been fitted with an external tank that will hold 300 liters, giving us 400 liters in total, and if the worst scenario was 20 liters per hundred kilometers, we should get 2000 kilometers with the full fuel load.

I have been told that fuel across to the West can reach double the price, so we hope to drive past that lot. ;)

I will just pull into Dougie's servo, (dugnsuz) on the way through

Looks great!

I've expressed interest in doing something similar upon retirement (still a long way away) so I am jealous.

Enjoy the nomadic lifestyle

thanks guys, yep, it is pretty flash and stylish, but it is our home for a while at least.

We have removed the couch and fitted a computer station in it's place so we can do the stuff we enjoy, especially our new direction in photography.

Have fun Leon,

Now where is the Roof turret - surely there is one there !
Fuel consumption at 5km/l sounds optimistic - I would have thought less ?

OMG... 400 liters! A favor please... drive safely.

I think you need mud flaps that say... "Back-off" ... you don't want anyone rear-ending you, the resulting explosion would be visible from space!

OIC!

i am just wondering were the astro gear is going ... and isn't this taking searching for clear dark skies a bit to far. On the plus side when you cross the Nullarbor you can just hook up the scope with PHD and use a mount to keep her nice and steady :P ;) have fun.

Thanks Ken, ;) yea you are right Henry, in the states the door is on the right hand side, so they, here in OZ put a dummy door on the left to keep the experts happy. Geoff we are heading west from Ballarat, never been that way, and we have all the time in the world.:D

What's the idea of the dummy door?:screwy: I thought putting the real door on the left side would be part of the conversion.

It's just like the John Deer ATV's you see the councils driving around in. John Deer is made in USA so it's left hand drive or nothing.:mad2:

leon
09-09-2010, 11:13 AM
Henry, it is probably not a dummy door, maybe i worded that wrong, it dose actually function, but has no steps to the ground level, a good fire escape i expect. ;)

It is just that Australian standards require a door on the left, a bit silly, but you know about some of the silly politics related to imported stuff.

Leon

Hi Leon,

They should have moved the steps as well.

Better still, the Yanks should realize every country in the world use left hand drive cars.
